OUT OF THE KITCHEN MIXTAPE
Lace and Dannybeatz were both born in the UK, Lace to Nigerian
parents and Danny being of English/Irish decent.
They have both been musical performers from a
young age. Lace used to sing non-stop as a child
growing up in Nigeria, where he was the centre of
attention in School plays and theatre groups.
Danny started to learn the Piano at the young age of five performing on stage by the time he was Seven. He then spent his teenage years performing on the decks in various groups fusing hip hop with guitars and can still be seen doing a Dj set in Paris and ocasionally in London.
After working a series of nine to fives which
flatterned their creativity, Lace started modelling
which saw him gracing catwalks in New York and London (comic relief) whereas Dannybeatz started doing what he did best, making beats.
They both first met after Lace had been to many recording outfits searching for someone to work with his unique style and ideas. To no prevail he stumbled across the small recording set up that Danny ran from the front room of his small flat in Fonthill Road, North London. Lace was as keen to sing as he was to rap and Danny was intrested in composing tracks in a way that was far from conventional. Danny liked what Lace had to offer and vice versa resulting in what has now become, a dynamic blend of West African vocals and rhythm and Western.
Now signed to 6909records in the U.K, Lace and Dannybeatz have finely tuned their efforts, which saw the release their first record ’StreetDreamer E.P’ in early 2006. This e.p comprises of five tracks that individually offer a pinch from the many different styles the duo are capable of producing. To coincide with this debut, Lace and Dannybeatz shot a video for the track ’Payback’ which was first broadcast on Channel U in August 2006. With ’Payback’ being one of their more aggressive numbers, the pair had another video shot for the track ’Dat Girl’ which is a stark contrast to say the least.
With their debut album due for release in early 2008, each track shows off their ability to produce music that can jump genre boundaries as often as you can jump tracks and with a debut single planned for the same time, Lace and Dannybeatz have set the ball rolling in the direction of U.K and U.S audiences, continuously working with many different U.K rappers keeping a mix to the blend and flavours they have strongly established.
