We take our cheese VERY seriously.

About Me

OK. It's about time I put up a REAL profile. My name is Spencer Jay Kim. I'm a full time actor/writer/director. My company, Waterstreet Productions is putting the finishing touches on the feature film, 'Dreaming on Christmas', which is a sweet little romantic comedy that I co-star in with my partner, Lizzy DuChez and the very talented Danny Trejo (Con Air, Heat, Spy Kids, From Dusk 'til Dawn), Nick Mancuso (Stingray, Under Siege 1,2) and my dear friend, Karis Campbell, who is curretly on 'The West Wing' . We are also working on back-to-back thrillers called 'My Soul to Take' Parts 1 & 2, which also star Mr. Mancuso as well and Robyn Griggs (Another World, One Life to Live) and the amazing John Savage (The Deer Hunter, The Godfather Part III, Do the Right Thing, and most recently, The New World). We have many exciting films in the works. I tell my partners, "I don't want to do a project unless people think we're absolutely insane for doing it.". Another goal of ours is to be the nicest people working in the business. WE'RE WORKING ON IT!!! For those of you who have joined us, thanks for jumping off a cliff with me. The ties that bind us will be eternal.
I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !

I'd like to meet:

My ENTIRE life thus far has been a mission to get me where I am now, and hopefully where I'm headed. But these past two years as my career has started to really take off, I've learned that it's not enough. Life is about those wonderful, terrible, beautiful, annoying, helpful, hurtful glorious people you call your friends and family. Most people who know me, KNOW that 'My Space' isn't quite my thing. But this is what I've given myself this year to reach out to those I love (I wish they were all on My Space. I'm e-mailing more too!) and to actively seek out new people and opportunities. Because that's what life is: an opportunity, an opportunity to change the world, to touch a life, to exercise a principle....to make a movie! For those of you in my life, I love you. I don't say it enough. But I do. And for anyone else...My name is Jay. I'm a storyteller. I love with my whole heart and I'm fiercely loyal. If you seek that and have some of that to give, I welcome you into my life. God bless you.

Music:

In life I'm usually pretty focused in what I like but my taste in music is pretty diverse. I like musicians in every genre of music if you're the REAL deal. Frank is my favorite singer. (if you have to ask: Frank who? then get off my page!!), and Janis Siegel is my favorite female vocalist. Film composers: John Williams, James Newton Howard, the late great Jerry Goldsmith etc. etc. and country, country, country.

Movies:

This year: Atonement, Charlie Wilson's War, Ratatoullie, The Kingdom, Waitress. THE DEPARTED rocked my whole damn world!! Favorite films include: 'The Godfathers Part I & II', 'Judgment At Nuremberg', 'On The Waterfront''A Man For All Seasons' 'From Here To Eternity' Bad Brando flicks, 'Ordinary People' 'Jaws', 'Goodfellas' 'Raging Bull' 'Scarecrow' ''Crash''Dog Day Afternoon' The Original 'Star Wars' Trillogy, Star Trek II. III. IV, 'Broadcast News' 'Scent of a Woman' 'A Few Good Men' Bad Hackman flicks, Branagh's 'Henry V''Awakenings', 'Heat' 'Contact' 'Braveheart' 'The Snapper''The Shawshank Redemption' 'Saving Private Ryan' 'Glory''The Insider'...In the last few years, I've really loved everything M.Night Shaymalan has been doing as well as 'The Royal Tennenbaums', 'Amelie''Memento' 'The Terminal' (which everyone seems to hate) and 'Traffic'.

Television:

Wow. You can tell that one doesn't spend much time on their MySpace page when the television shows they list in this section are already cancelled! I haven't had time to watch much television nor will I in the near future. But I will urge everyone to give themselves a treat and watch THE WIRE. Since THE WEST WING went off the air I think I have been searching for my new obsession and this is it. HBO's daring series about the Baltimore drug wars is about to start airing its 5th and final season but don't bother there. You won't know what the hell is going .. Start from the beginning and rent the DVD's. They re only 12 episode seasons and they are truly MIND BLOWING. THE WIRE is the single most uncompromisingly realistic show ever put on television.

Books:

I read a lot of non-fiction. 'A PROBLEM FROM HELL: AMERICA AND THE AGE OF GENOCIDE' by Smantha Power changed my life. I read anything Woodward writes, Robert Caro is writing the best literary biographies in publishing history with his LBJ series, in particular MASTER OF THE SENATE. Favroite novel is I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN by Hana Green (sp?). A huge Dicken's fan, GREAT EXPECTATIONS, especially and more contemporarily, Pat Conroy and William Goldman's tell all books on Hollywood. Read 'WHICH LIE DID I TELL?' by Goldman. It's great. And anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, in particular: AUTUMN OF THE PATRIARC

Heroes:

Raphael Lemkin (if you care, look him up folks), Hubert Humphry, Laners Jordan (the real one), FDR, Kermit the Frog and the passengers of Flight 93 ( God rest your souls)...Hackman, Pacino, DeNiro, Jodie Foster, Alfre Woodard, Spielberg, Soderberg, Sorkin, Michael Mann...guys like that.
