About Me

Tommy was born and raised in central Illinois and recently relocated to Kansas City. He began as a classically trained pianist as a child however, he was drawn to the guitar after breaking his hand as a teen and has played electric guitar ever since. He originally thrived on the classic rock sounds of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Budgie, to name a few, but now has a passion for the blues scene of Kansas City.
In 2003, Tommy’s life changed after he suffered a fractured skull and a traumatic brain injury. Funny thing about brains, you need them for everything. Tommy was left tone deaf and suffered from frequent bouts of memory loss and petit mal seizures. With only muscle memory to rely on, Tommy discovered the blues working through Eric Clapton’s From the Cradle as he clung to what was left of his musical memory. The blues was precisely the therapy he needed to reclaim his previous skills and learn to overcome the challenges associated with his brain injury. This experience proved to be the catalyst for much of his original material as he ventured deeper into the blues.
In 2006 The Tommy Andrew Band has been building a sound reputation through word of mouth through the Kansas City Blues Society, and with a strong showing at the International 2006 Blues Competition in 2006, they took first in round one at Blayney’s and moved on to deliver a powerful performance in the Kansas City finals at Knuckleheads.
The Band has performed at Blayney's, BB's Lawnside, Knuckleheads, The Trouser Mouse, Marley's pub, The Double Deuce, Prairie Meadows Casino, The Jolly Troll, The Down Under, The Hideout, Mike's Tavern.

What is music?
Wickipedia states that music is "an art, entertainment, or other human activity that involves organized and audible sounds and silence. It is expressed in terms of pitch, rhythm, harmony, and timbre. Music involves complex generative forms in time through the construction of patterns and combinations of natural stimuli, principally sound. As a human activity, music may be used for artistic or aesthetic, communicative, entertainment, or ceremonial purposes. The definition of what constitutes music varies according to culture and social context..." blah blah blah blah
But...that's not what music is. Where does it come from? What is it saying? Why do some of us need to experss it and most of us enjoy listening to it?
