I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a very happy person. Strangers tell me this and I agree with them. I consider myself to be extremely lucky but I believe that this has everything to do with optimism and fearlessness and very little to do with divine or cosmic happenstance. This is not to say that I'm fearless, but I know very well the value in swallowing it. I can be both extremely outgoing and extremely shy and I think this confuses people (shrug). I'm easily distracted and tend to lose focus; of people, tasks, ideas, etc. I'm terribly indecisive but I'm also very easy going. I'll eat just about anything and sleep just about anywhere. These days I'm working all of the time, but I love both of my jobs and can't bring myself to give any of it up. I'm attracted to people who are creative and expressive and hardworking, and I consider myself to be these things. Buy me a drink and I will get drunk with you. Make me laugh and I will adore you forever. Make me mad and I will probably forgive you tomorrow. I can't hold a grudge, believe me, I've tried. If your looking for CUFFS, check my top friends, you'll find it there!

My Interests

finding vintage treasures, waking up early, staying out late, not being hung over, hot beverages--coffee in particular, days off, my sewing machine, people who make me laugh, good company in general, spoonerisms, travel, my apartment, my bed, new friends, old friends, changing seasons, vacation, anything of the 60's era, anything art deco, crescendos, beats, dancing and people who will dance with me, soup, cold left-overs--mainly pizza, practical jokes and prank wars--don't mess with this, finding time to read, finding time to write, finding time to clean, running with my ipod, discovering new music, cooking up a tasty meal for two, tequila, whiskey, CUFFS.

I'd like to meet:

Someone new. People who are as excited as I am. Jason Shwartzman, Dov Charney, Demetri Martin, Alison Goldfrapp, Helena Bonham Carter.

Music:

Oh, so obsessed at the moment. Completely overwhelmed by all the amazing stuff out there to be found. Losing valuable hours of sleep searching, finding and listening.

Movies:

In no particular order other than alphabetical: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Amelie, Flashdance, The Gladiator, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Labyrinth, The Secretary, Sex and Lucia, Wet Hot American Summer, You and Me and Everyone We Know.

Television:

I don't have the time/discipline/desire to watch anything on a regular basis. Mostly the Food Network, which is usually conducive to a nap, which is always what I need. Lately I find myself watching The Game Show Network. Password sucks me in (also ideal for napping). Family Guy, Scrubs, Project Runway, Myth Busters. I like to watch the little sewing demonstrations on channel 6, and the guy who gives the French lesson in the morning, I like to see how much I can understand.

Books:

In a dry spell, having no spare time at all. I miss them. I like historical fiction (Philippa Gregory, Margaret George). I loved some of my college texts (Guns, Germs and Steel, Nickeled and Dimed, The Clash of Civilizations). Also loved The Red Tent, The Lovely Bones, The Stranger, Life & Times of Michael K, The Pickup. I'm generally most engrossed by culturally rich, historically based stories, however I love to flip through pop culture/subculture references, collections of fashion and architectural photography, and pattern design and textile collections.

Heroes:

"Profits were kept low, too, by our thoroughly amateur and peculiar way of doing business. At first customers terrified us. We used to keep a bottle of Scotch under the counter and although I have never liked it, I found it gave me the courage I needed to deal with the more frightening ones. Often they turned out to be charming people; we grew to like them and then we would offer them a drink too and this set up a completely new way of selling because in a short time a great many of our customers were also friends..."
If I could be someone else...
