Sydney Pollack's Havana starring Robert Redford and Lena Olin. Beautiful love story brilliantly written by Judith Rascoe. Set during the Cuban Revolution, the hero is an apolitical but sympathetic American (played by Redford). ( Film info )

David Lean's Bridge on the River Kwai starring Alec Guinness and Sessue Hayakawa. The book is better, but the film ending is great! The character written in for William Holden undermines the plot. ( Film info )
