I Am A JAMIE MCMURRAY FAN....NOTHING MORE!!!---McMurray assumed driving duties behind the wheel of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates at the start of the 2003 season. The Joplin native laid a solid foundation during his rookie year, scoring five top-five and 13 top-10 finishes en route to finishing 13 th in the final point standings. McMurray also grabbed one Bud Pole Award at Homestead-Miami Speedway. McMurray was named the 2003 NASCAR Cup Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year.Jamie McMurray won his first Cup race in just his second start, subbing for the injured Sterling Marlin in 2002.McMurray completed six of the final seven races that season, scoring another top-10 and prompting team owner Chip Ganassi to give him his own ride in 2003.McMurray finished 13th, 11th and 12th in points, respectively, the next three seasons, but couldn't find Victory Lane. He'll try again in 2006, only in a different car with a different owner.McMurray will drive Jack Roush's No. 26 Ford, previously the Cup-winning No. 97 car, as he looks to fulfill the promise that began in his second race.Actually, McMurray's began showing promise at age 8 in go-karts. In 1986, at age 10, he won his first United States Go-Kart title. He would win three more, and in 1991 he added the World Go-Karting Championship to his list of early accomplishments.McMurray also had the opportunity to represent the United States in an international karting competition in the former Soviet Union.In 1992 McMurray started driving NASCAR Late Models. In '97 he defeated former NASCAR Winston Racing Series champion Larry Phillips for the track championship at I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Mo.McMurray competed in the NASCAR Re/Max Challenge Series in 1998-99. Also in '99 McMurray made his Craftsman Truck Series debut, with a best finish of 11th, at Las Vegas, in five starts.McMurray made 16 Truck starts in 2000, finishing third at Indianapolis Raceway Park to go along with three other top-10s. He also made two Busch starts that year before joining the series full time in '01.In 2002 McMurray finished sixth in the final point standings by winning twice and compiling six top-fives and 14 top-10s. While subbing for Marlin in the Cup Series, McMurray became just the 11th driver -- and first in the Modern Era (1972-present) -- to win a Cup race in his first or second start.McMurray was the Cup rookie of the year in 2003 with five top-fives and 13 top-10s. His best season to date came in 2004 when he posted nine top-fives and 23 top-10s.Also in 2004 McMurray became one of a select number of drivers to win a race in all three of NASCAR's top series, accomplishing the feat in reverse order -- Cup, Busch and Truck.McMurray was handpicked by Mark Martin to replace him in the No. 6, but when an opening came about for the No. 97/26, McMurray had his ride.
