Cultural anthropology, social theory, culture and social change, identity construction, political economy, anthropology of food, global/local theories and agency......being a nerd
Someone who will help me get into Harvard Grad School. People who think I'm smart and want to hang out with me.
I'm an 80s whore. Selena turned me on to Rock; classic, glam, hard, doesn't matter. I blame my mother for teaching me to Hustle and like it. Hip-hop before '96 but if it has a good beat and I can do the cabbage patch to it, it's groovy. Old school R&B/ Motown. Barry White. Gorillaz. MC Chris. Foo Fighters. NIN. And on occasion, Wagner and Beethoven
Anything directed by Sam Raimi or staring Bruce Campbell. But it's all about the Evil Dead movies! "Groovy" I have a special place in my heart for 80s flicks that are shown on late night cable: Footloose, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Top Gun, Better Off Dead, anything John Hughes. Most Pixar/Disney animated movies. Movies starring Johnny Depp, Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Salma Hayek, John Cusack, John Leguizamo and Steve Buscemi usually spark my interest. Everything Kevin Smith, Luc Besson, Mel Brooks...
Why have all my favorite shows been canceled? (Think Joss Whedon) At least I still have my Law and Order (but not the criminal intent series)... if Will ever gives me back my cable! Then again, I got a stack of books and too many papers to write, so too much TV is a bad.
I love to read but have still yet to finish The Jungle; my school schedule has made that impossible for at least another 2 (+?) years. I recommend Lamb by Christopher Moore to any literate. I follow the Wheel of Time Series religiously (RIP Robert Jordan). I am able to admit being a Harry Potter fan without feeling ashamed. JRR Tolkien, Susan Cooper, CS Lewis, and Madeleine L'Engle. Oh! and Stephen King. Lies and the Lying Liars who Tell Them, Fast Food Nation, The Omnivore's Dilemma, basically cynical critiques of society with humor. Richard P. Feynman (The man was a genius!). Just to name drop, Victor Turner, Marvin Harris, Eric Wolf, Levi-Strauss, Clifford Geertz, Pierre Boudieu, Michel Foucault, Sidney Mintz (do I sound smart yet)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer??? The guy who invented the taco salad! They're awesome!!! Anyone who brings me a Starbucks while I'm working =)
