What’s in a name? In Puerto Rican rapper/producer Errelevent’s case – nothing, and everything. The “nothing†refers to the grammatically correct spelling of his name – irrelevant, which is used to describe something not important or related to the subject matter at hand. When the “I†is replaced with an “E†(the first letter of Errelevent’s birth name) however, the word takes on an entirely new meaning – one of talent, one of passion, one of complete and utter relevance.
From a young age music was in integral part of Errelevent’s life. Born and raised in San Francisco, he first picked up a microphone at the age of ten. Influenced by everyone from the godfathers of hip-hop Rakim and Run DMC, to West Coast legends Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Errelevent honed his production and rapping skills in his older brother’s basement studio. Inspired by local rap stars such as RBL Posse and the Get Low Playaz, Errelevent began networking with artists and appearing on albums in 2001. Having already worked with such artists as San Quinn, Rappin’ 4-Tay, Mr. Kee, and JT The Bigga Figga, in early 2003 Errelevent released his first album – Omnipotent. Released on his own Relevent Music imprint and entirely self-produced, the album was a powerful blend of hard-hitting baselines, live instrumentation, and innovative word play and rhymes.
During the next two years Errelevent continued his album appearances, most notably appearing on the both nationally distributed Bayriderz 3 compilation and On One: The 40 Ounce Album and Mixtape. Also, in conjunction with popular internet jukebox Northern Ridaz, he released his critically acclaimed free mixtapes Whether You Like It Or Not Volumes 1 and 2, which each garnered over 10,000 downloads upon their releases. It was in early 2005 that Errelevent teamed with long-time friend and collaborator 10sion to release their highly anticipated compilation Heaven Made Hell. Again entirely produced by Errelevent, the album was a local favorite and contained the single “Clear The Way†featuring The Jacka, which received radio play by 106 KMEL as well as various college radio stations.
Always on the grind, Errelevent continued to hit the mixtape scene hard in early 2006 with the release of The True Answer. Mixed by Sickmix DJ Daric B, it contained collaborations with Atlantic recording artist Mistah FAB and underground star Smigg Dirtee. Late summer saw the release of Errelevent’s greatest mixtape yet – The Best You Never Heard. Co-hosted by one half of the West Coast’s mixtape kings, DJ Strong of the Cali Untouchable DJs and Bay Area legend San Quinn, the mixtape was a testament to what Errelevent had become – the premier latin lyricist of the West Coast – one who’s versatility is virtually unmatched. Capable of producing everything from jaw-dropping sixteen-bar verses to catchy club bangers for the ladies, Errelevent is truly the future of rap music.
2008 will prove to be a career-defining year for Errelevent. Currently putting the finishing touches on his long-awaited second solo album Redefinition, Errelevent is poised to make a national impact on the rap game. He has already generated a buzz both locally and nationally with the release of his street singles “I Believe It†featuring Keak Da Sneak and produced by Sean T, and “Lean†featuring Kaz Kyzah of The Team and produced by Traxamillion – both of which have received airplay from Sirius Satellite Radio and 106 KMEL. Tapping fellow bay area super-producers Cozmo, Davey D. Cohn, Rob Lo, and Equivalent Exchange and collaborating with the region’s hottest wordsmiths San Quinn, Ya Boy, and Guce, Errelevent is set to deliver the must-have album of the year and firmly solidify himself as relevant to the world of hip-hop.
