BIOGRAPHY
From a place where lost souls rose from the graveyard in his backyard and the oak trees show nostalgia of the slave times and struggle of the south, rises a young ingenious lyricist, poet and skillful writer identified by the name of Mecca. Labeling himself the “mecca†of rhymes and the center of interest or attraction Anthony “Mecca†Vanstory Jr. born December 1983 grew up on the poverty overflowing eastside of Greensboro, North Carolina inspired by hip hop music sprouting out of the late 80s and early 90s. By the time he was 5 his influences ranged from LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Krs-One, and NWA up to the 90s where he sparked a temptation to begin rapping himself from influences by the greats such as Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast, Big L, AZ….along with a surfeit of others. In 1995 while attending junior high school Mecca met his team mates ACE, BODEGA and OZ who went on to form the group QUAZI, meaning Quest Under A Zeniths Inspiration, zenith being the highest peak which they refer to as GOD, therefore stating that they are on a quest under Gods inspiration. The group began working, practicing songs, battling, performing etc. to gain their skills. While each member brought a different style to the group, Mecca brought the aggressive, punch line, slick, yet laid back mc. Performing on stage with Shania Twain while he was a member on his high school drum line, gave Mecca an experience like he’s never felt before and the adrenaline from being in front of the crowd was a sentiment to never be forgotten as Mecca hoped to obtain this feeling in front of his own crowd soon. Becoming a father of a son in 2003 and being diagnosed with a liver disease the same year put him at a point where not only did he have set backs that put his life on hold for 3 years but it made him have to work harder and prove a point that he has something to say and it will be heard. After receiving a second chance at life in 2005 Mecca showed a tremendous sign of growth and gained a willingness to go out on a limb and become a risk taking assorted individual. He began working on an album entitled “Walking Thru Hell With Angels†which is what he felt like he was going through at the time and felt like he defined the definition of pain. On each track, you hear as he expresses his hurt, anger, and frustration through fierce terminology and compelling beats. Being featured on the Hood Superstars Mixtape “The American Dream Series†Vol. 1 Hosted By Big Rob The Jeweler and Styles P was his first step in getting a buzz nationwide but not his last. After relocating and spending time back and forth from Atlanta,Jacksonville,NYC to North Carolina, he went on to gain a fan base in other countries such as Japan and Australia and airplay in the United Kingdom and still growing to get the recognition he deserves. Not only does he have a goal but he will surpass it, as he begins to step foot into his journey and overcome the masses."I define the definition of pain....to live is to suffer...but only a warrior can define the end of suffrage....which is to survive" -MeccaPimp-My-Profile
