I'm Leanin On The Lord Side Today And Forever...

About Me

During an artists career, there are motivations and keys to unlock the missing piece of the puzzle. Throughout all the doubts by “critics” and different other artists. Killa Kay overcame the obstacles he faced from the start and making sure anyone that blocks his road to his dream will fall.
Born as Kelvin, Killa Kay, came from an almost average family from the Philippines. A country that can be considered as a poor country, where,15.3 million Filipinos are suffering from poverty. “ see where I came from, not everybody eats 3 portion of meals every day. A lot of people have to get their street hustle on whatever just to make profit and make sure they have food to eat for that day.” says Killa Kay. Though a product of his environment, the grind never stops. Going to school in his young age, he established quite a few reputation with partner in crime cousin (Jan) to be one of the most trouble makers. “ I remember when I was in the 4th Grade, I had a bully and damn, I remember me and my cousin settling the whole thing on the street to fight it out” Killa Kay says.
Though was raised from 6 years old by his mother and uncles, aunties and cousins, he grew up with discipline from the members of his family circle. During his young age, he developed a passion into different varieties of music such as : Rock, R&B, Pop, and other different music genre. Singing to the lyrics, he developed certain skills. Such as the hearing for the right note that amateur singers sang. “ I was really more of a critic of vocals, I usually judge my mom when she sings and I tell her she is not hitting the right note or tone for it, I guess I was more have the sound for good music” Killa Kay says. With the passion for different music, he also developed his skills with his cousins. Playing basketball, was sometimes the ticket to earning gwap for the day. “ when you’re a young kid, you want to get gwap, so me and my cousin hustle people and we would play em basketball and pretend we aint good at all, but that’s the mind set, tryin to hustle em and in the end, both of us getting paid and have some food for that day.” says Killa Kay. By living his life one day at a time, he grew up almost relying to himself and always thinking of living a better life.
On 2001 of January, Killa Kay and his mother moved to America in order to be with his father and to start a new and better life together as a family. Living in a different and bigger culture, the scene was almost overwhelmed to the young future artist. “ I was really shocked, I can’t believe it that I’m in the land of opportunity and how different it is for me, I could say I was culture shocked.” says Killa Kay. In the young age of 13, he developed the ability to become a sponge to the culture immediately. Still, the differential of the two culture was overwhelming, Killa Kay embraced the culture while still embracing his very first roots.
With in the age of 15, he started to enjoy writing poetry. Writing short poems once in a while turned into a daily hobby. Keeping it as a secret, eventually leaked out during his Sophomore year of high school. Developing more lyrical content and consistency, he developed into a stage of rapping. Listening to different variety of artists such as : Nas, Eminem, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Rakim, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg etc.
After doing short poetries, Killa Kay started to try out his abilities to rap battling other people text online. Though succeeding in different battles, he never developed the skills necessary to bring his skills on the table. In the upcoming months, he decided to stop writing and let the time go and let lose.
Within 3 years. Killa Kay decided to return back to his poetry and this time take it more serious and into another level. Hooking up with his best friend Producer Roony. He established to make his very first song as an artist. “ I wasn’t that good back then, but I thought it was a great song. I didn’t know any structures at all the very first time I started doing it” Killa Kay says. With in 2 months, Killa Kay managed to drop new tracks and eventually collaborate with other artists such as Prophecy, Oakland, Roony and Joiner. After a buzz started out, he kept making songs and eventually getting into beef with different artist. After a month, Killa Kay was separated from the crew for undisclosed reasons and ending up starting his solo career.
Within 4 months of his solo career, he ended up making his first solo demo album titled "First Instinct". After numerous of recording and hard work Killa Kay was able to release 17 tracks and sold +190 of his mixtape immediately around Carson/Reno/Sparks/Dayton. With songs such as "First Instinct, Bring The Beef and 100 Bullets For Em'" made him one of the upcoming artist to be recognize with. " After some tribulations in my career, i used it as my motivation all the beef and drama settin off was just another tool for me to use as my fuel" says Killa Kay.
Throughout the months, Killa Kay took a break until he started working on new tracks December 2006. " I was wondering whats my next move and I wanted it to be a great move to set it off better than before." Killa Kay says. After recording a couple tracks Killa Kay decided to come out with a brand new mixtape titled "On The Grind Vol 1" Where he featured artists such as " Prophecy, Oakland and Ice". After writing and recording numbers of track, he decided to release the brand new mixtape on August 6th 2007. Tracks such as "Can't Fuck With Us" "Doubted By Many" "I Will Miss You" "Bring It On" " You Can't Stop Me" and "You Already Know" received a lot of recognition from everybody around the Nor Nev and Interstate areas. Over a short period of time, Killa Kay ranked up to the top 10 unsigned artist in Nevada. Getting recognition down south and all over the state, Killa Kay maintained a humble aspects of life and music. " I see it as ranking and all this plays are nothing but statistics, because at the end of the day, you gotta better yourself and not worry about the stats you see. It just means that your doing something great that people are adding your shit and rockin with the shit you got on the mixtape or album" says Killa Kay. After receiving offers from different squadrons/crews and facing beefs, Killa Kay still went on getting his shine all by himself with out trying to rely on anyone. " I see it as I'm good where I'm at and I will continue to grind till I'm dead. But beef, its whatever, I can face it myself, its really whatever for me. I ain't going to bust until they shoot first." says Killa Kay.
With upcoming albums setting up for his future and having close to 3 solo album, He has created his stepping stone to move forward and to come up from the bottom of the totem pole to the next level.
" Last thing I know is that I'm gon' get whats mine and I ain't going to stop, because everything I've done was all mine, my ideas, my picture, my words, my soul on every track I've made. So it's just me i can rely to at the end of the day, every body gon be fighting to be on the top. Ima get my own by myself without begging someone for it or ridin someone. The work I put is different from other people that think they got it because they got theirs on different ways than what I got to. No body gon really tell me what to do in my life."
With his 3rd solo CD coming out and a future 4th album, Killa Kay will continue to pursue his goal to be on top.
" As a song writer/recording artist, I think I'm at the level where I can continue making records and making new shit for everyone. It's just the matter of how much do you want it and how do you want it to turn out to be. Because your the only one that can create your own destiny and no one else can tell you shit to do. We all have many paths to go to, it's a matter of the decision we make and by thinking it throughly.Like a great friend told me " No else have your style that you have and that makes everyone unique and we all are different" I found it as, people who didn't want to play my shit (hardcore/battle rap) then don't play it, its my style, ain't no body gon tell me shit to do with my career. This is my grind, my life, my passion, and if you block my path, I'll run you over and leave ya flat on the pavement.- Killa Kay"
