Reading, painting, playing guitar badly, cooking badly, somehow managing to still seem cool, being neurotic. Mostly being neurotic, really.
Weeeelllll. People I already know seem to track me down here. So, umm, I'd like to meet people I know. Which sounds snobby. And is, so you probably don't want to meet me anyway. Oh, and Jeff Tweedy. I'd like to meet him. If you run into him...? Thanks.
(This list is in absolutely no order, seriously, so ease up.), The Postal Service, Ella Fitzgerald, The Cure, Ryan Adams, Drive-By Truckers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Tori Amos, Matthew Sweet (Oh, Matthew, thanks for all those nights under the covers pretending I was asleep and secretly listening to Girlfriend for six hours in a row. P.S. Tour.), Radiohead, Alkaline Trio, Heavens, Belle and Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub, Paul Simon, Gnarls Barkley, Dave Matthews Band (and you can fuck right off, thank you), John Vanderslice, Gravy Monster and Cactushead (one half more than the other.), Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Kweller, Dar Williams, The Twilight Singers (le sigh...), Derek See, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Old 97's, Neko Case, Drive By Truckers, The Magnetic Fields, old Liz Phair before this shitty new pop-princess phase, Ben Folds, Ben Folds Five, Guster, Arto Lindsay, The Beatles, Crooked Fingers, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Weezer, The Killers, The Haunted, Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, In Flames, various other weird metal bands that sink in through osmosis. I'm so weird. Anyway. It's Will's fault. I also find myself liking things like Eric Clapton and dude, I so went to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra the other day. I did. It was good, too. (I KNOW.)
Man, I love me some Napoleon Dynamite, like the rest of the universe. Lost In Translation, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Little Mermaid, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Chasing Amy (and anything Kevin Smith has ever touched, bless his heart), Pride and Prejudice and some other ones, I'm sure. This is boring, am I almost done?
Psh. I used to watch the Cartoon and Food and Weather networks and that was about it. I like our specialized culture. Now I don't really watch anything and, frankly, I'm not sure I miss it. Oh. Firefly. On DVD. Rock. I guess Aqua Teen Hunger Force on DVD, too. And Fraggle Rock and The Muppet Show. Alton Brown is pretty hot on Good Eats, though I heard not so much with Feasting On Asphalt.
Heavens. I'm not even sure I could begin to really flesh this section out. So I'll just tell you my favorite book is Lolita and this is the first place I've publicly admitted that. And I promise you that two of my ex-boyfriends just shook their heads and went "Christ, her favorite book is Lolita. No wonder." Which has nothing to do with sexual practices but, baby, love is a battlefield and sometimes it's hard to tell who the good guys are (but it's never ever the predatory old guy, okay?). I also read a lot of stuff. I'm pretty much at a book a day when I settle in. It's like, six months later and I can delete the Wilco book and I actually have lots of favorite books that I can think of right now. I Capture The Castle. The Ground Beneath Her Feet. The Harry Potter books. Well, except for book six because Ginny Weasley is a little skankette and I HATE IT when skankettes win the day. The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. Stranger In A Strange Land. Reading Lolita in Tehran. Graphic novels/comic books, often and voraciously. Phonogram. I read a lot of music biographies, too, and a lot of science fiction and pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I'm sure there are more but that's enough to chew on for a little while.
Wembley from Fraggle Rock.
