Bass player/artist Anna Ruddick resides in Montreal, Quebec. She has been reading, writing and painting (6-foot tall black and white portraits) since a young age and her preoccupation with stylistic and aesthetic contrast (things that don't match) as a foundation for all of her art is what drives her dynamic approach to music. At the age of 18, after ten years of classical flute lessons, she stole an upright bass from her high school and moved to Montreal. She has since studied Jazz performance and composition at McGill University, as well as at the Banff Centre for the Art’s Workshop in Jazz and Creative music run by Dave Douglas, and her teachers have included esteemed bassists George Mitchell, Guy Boisvert, Vicente Archer, Scott Colley and Jim Vivian. Anna enjoys the highly varied musical experience living in Montreal affords her, and she has been privileged to work with artists/bands such as Shot While Hunting, Christine Tassan, Maia Davies, Joel Miller, Olivier Adoue Band, Kweku and the Movement, Han Bennink, Thomas Carbou, Al McLean, Anthony Rozankovic, Groove Attic, the Jon Lindhorst Quartet and many others.Anna is currently touring with dance-rock act Creature (creatureband.com) and has just finished recording/arranging the debut album of the all female pop/alt-country group Ladies of the Canyon (lotcmusic.com), of which she is one of the founding members. When she is in town she hosts a jazz jam session at Grumpy’s bar in downtown Montreal on Wednesday nights. Contact/Info:
