About Me

I've been working in experimental music for a few years, and my interests are in tuning, microtonal stuff and timbre. I got into making music through synthesizers - I was lucky enough to be lent some old analogue synthesizers and tape machines as a kid by Pete Hamilton of Dublin post-punk bandThe Peridots.(Pete also acted as an early formative influence by playing me lots of disreputable records.)
I like abrasive sonorities and strange acoustical interactions. My pieces above are influenced a lot by the music of Glenn Branca and other people who are concerned with timbre, tuning and harmonic structure. I was lucky enough to be able to study with Branca in 2005. I also braved the cold of Buffalo in Jan 2006 and studied with Tony Conrad. Currently doing a PhD in Music Technology at NUI Maynooth, and moving up to Derry to work at the School of Creative Arts, University of Ulster in September.
Recently, I've been working on performances of a new piece for 23 electric guitars entitled 'Angels at the Shotgun Wedding'. This was performed by the Electric Guitar Array (www.electricguitarorchestra.com), and you can hear some of the results above. I'm also taking the microtones into surroundspace with the Spatial Music Collective (www.spatialmc.net) - current projects include concerts with the Dublin Guitar Quartet and the DEAF Festival, in addition to a recent concert with the Bridgewood Ensemble. When I'm not doing the above, I also play with pop/industrial band Audogenic.Photos below from performance of 'Angels at the Shotgun Wedding' at Soundings 0402, Daghdha Church, Limerick:New video piece below - Structure Fatigue - with visuals by Libby Fabricatore
