About Me

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Nyoka Ny-D was one of the first in her family to become an American citizen. However, during the younger part of her life, Nyoka lived in her family's native land Trinidad and Tobago and was raised by her 70-something-year-old grandmother.Later, she returned to New York City and reunited with her mother, who was able to establish a small one room apartment for the two. According to Nyoka, living in Brooklyn, New York was one of the best times in childhood. Against the will of Nyoka, her mother decided to move to Baltimore, Maryland in hopes of discovering a better lifestyle. Not aware the conditions, the two moved into a project, and for years lived across abandoned homes and burned down buildings before moving into an African American suburb. Nyoka regards Baltimore as her "discovery place;" the place where she found herself, her purpose and most of all God.Reputed a Zealot, which in biblical times were the people who stood up to the Romans and taught the people. Just like the zealots, she will stand up to anyone and any entity. Zealot also means someone who is very dedicated, and she dedicates herself to whatever she does.
