Hate Me I'm A Lout

About Me

Formed in 1995 while working at a movie theatre, The Louts wanted to be NC's newest streetpunk band, albeit with a large crustpunk influence at the time. Early 1996 saw our first shows at the (in)famous Kelford street basement, whereupon we were invited to play shows at The Caboose, in Garner, NC. At the time The Caboose was hosting many of the best US punk bands traveling through the area as well as UK bands and The Louts were a natural fit for opening slots at these shows. The Louts were even influential in bringing bands such as Blanks 77 and The Suspects to the area for their first shows and in the case of the Blanks, many shows. These shows led to headlining shows across the triangle area in the best known venues, The Cat's Cradle, Lincoln Theatre, Kings and The Brewery. Some of our favorite bands we got to play with include: The Business, The Subhumans, The Varukers, Patriot, Aus Rotten, Fear, Stratford Mercenaries (featuring Steve Ignorant of Crass fame), Anti Flag, The Casualties, The Last Resort, Murphy's Law, Sloppy Seconds, Blanks 77, Hudson Falcons, The Boils, Disorderly Conduct, The GC5, The Dirty Politicians, The Staggers, and if I can think of the rest I'll put them up...or you can write and remind me.

Influences: The Clash!, G.B.H, The Avengers, Stiff Little Fingers, Defiance, No Future Records early compilations, most of the bands on our top friends list, throw in some roots rock reggae like Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Desmond Dekker, old crust/political punk like Crass, Doom, Flux of Pink Indians, and lots of other stuff I can't think of right now...
Sounds Like: You tell me! We were never trying to sound like anyone else but apparently influences can always be heard...
Here is a review we got from the Independent, a weekly paper in the Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham, NC area-"The Louts are a Raleigh based group five-piece with a heavy Oi! influence... and yeah, they're into social issues, as you can hear on their bad-as-hell recent release, The Pissed and Loud E.P. The disc... really sounds good: The guitars are crisp and searing, the drums punchy, the tracks crackling with energy and attitude"
