About Me

I grew up in the Washington DC area, moved around a lot (San Francisco/Berkeley, New York, London) and finally settled in Dublin, Ireland, in the spring of 2000. If I'm not at work and not asleep, I'm probably involved in political agitation, watching football (Celtic or my local club, Bohs) or posting silly shite on the internet somewhere. Not necessarily in that order.

Please note: I don't chat. I also don't check my messages very often and when I do, I don't usually respond to them unless they're from someone I actually know. Nothing personal, I'm busy.

My Interests

Politics, indie music, football (as most of the world knows it), travel, linguistics, sleep.

I'd like to meet:

Old friends, new friends, whatever.

Music:

Well my first stop in a record store (see how old I am, I still call them "record stores") is in the indie section but once there, I could be looking for anything. At the moment I'm really digging a lot of Irish bands - just follow the links on my friends page. Apart from indie stuff I also like 70s and 80s punk, 60s pop/psych, Abba, old country/jazz/blues, medieval classical music, whatever!

Movies:

Grease, Run Lola Run, Muriel's Wedding, Delicatessen, 12 Angry Men, The Sixth Sense, 24 Hour Party People, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Say Anything, The Wizard Of Oz, The Wind That Shakes The Barley, No Country for Old Men

Books:

I have a ton of them and I'm always collecting more. I read history/politics heavily, most especially Irish but I'm really interested in any sort of conflict situation, including the Balkans, Rwanda, Palestine etc. I also read a lot of sociolinguistics (but only if it's written by actual linguists - none of this Bill Bryson rubbish) and I'm interested (from a purely academic perspective of course!) in issues surrounding pornography and the sex trade. I don't read much fiction, I'd rather read for knowledge. Currently reading: I can never remember to keep this updated ... if anyone gives a shite, ask!
