About Me
The band looks good, sounds good and feels good. How the hell did this happen???
The year is 1998, location somewhere in Turku, Finland. Junes is suffering from a hangover when the phone rings early in the morning. Well, considering the headache and unreal condition, it might have felt like morning. The actual time was 4 pm, in case anyone needs to know. Junes didn't look too happy to answer ("The fuckin' thing's been ringing all morning!!!!") and the conversation went exactly like this: -Hello? -Who? -When and where? -Ok, I'm in.
Miglo, just some guy Junes had met at a party, had just asked him to join a band.
Junes was supposed to give it a go as a guitarist in a band that hadn't actually been set up yet. In a small shit hole -which later on got demolished- the band members met each other, most of them recovering from the excessive of the night before. The names and faces were familiar but none of them were really friends until their first jamming session.
Back then the line-up was Miki-lead vocals and bass, Miglo-guitar, Junes-guitar and Tommy-drums.
The band had only jammed a few times, and it wasn't long before they started writing their own songs. And soon they were ready to ROCK! With their first gig looming the band still hadn't decided on name. And so were the Self-made Rockers born. The name spoke for itself. Some people might think it's a praise for the band. Those who know them, know that it's ironic. That's for sure!
After a couple of years of gigging Miki left the band to concentrate on his other projects. Junes stepped up to the microphone, and has since received many accolades for his vocals, especially from the band's English fans.
So Miki was gone and the band needed a new bassist. Several attempts were heard but the band was not completely satisfied. Until the spring 2003 Mr. Frank joined the SMR. With the right attitude and plenty of experience this talented bassist came along with everything the band needed. Including a new drummer, as Tommy had decided to settle down and started living a so called normal life. So just before the band's first UK gig Robson joined the band and there we go; a perfect match has been formed again!
SMR have made a few demos (Popcorn Baby (2000), My Way (2002), Under the Street Lights (2003) etc., and listening to these you can tell the band's got better and better every time. Not bad at all! Like music promoter Mr. John Swaine all the way from London has said about SMR: Subtle this is not -enjoy!
The band have been gigging around South Finland since 1999 and also made an appearance at the legendary Hope & Anchor club in Islington, London (Fuck those of you, who didn't believe they were gonna do it!). It's safe to say that SMR's energy and rock n' roll life style -which all of them were living even before they were in a band- can be seen in every ass-kicking show. The crowd have gone mad, and will do so as long as SMR keep playing... The band drew on influences such as the Hellacopters, Backyard Babies, Social Distortion, etc. So if you like any of these, you will definately enjoy these muthafuckers! Check out the gigs coming up and come n see it yourself!
