Red Right Return is a Washington, D.C., band. Red Right Return is also a nautical rule directing your ship towards safe harbor. Red Right Return will get you there.
Edgy without being pretentious, Red Right Return is punky garage music with an introspective, almost psychedelic side. A song like "Green," which is about an ill-fated weed, begins with aggressive guitars and a uniquely driving beat but morphs into a dramatic requiem once we find out the plant has been killed. Red Right Return's live show is full of energy yet they leave the song structures open to spontaneous alterations. Neither purely punk nor outright jammy, their music is somewhere between the middle finger and the peace sign.
It started at a house party in Washington, DC in the summer of 2004 one block from DC's famous 930 Club venue. Unaware that they were neighbors in DC, Tim Kearney (lead singer, guitar player) met Mark Raymond (drums.) They began to talk music and soon decided to jam. There was a musical connection during that first practice and they began to write current songs "Pledge" and "Kill Your TV." Local musician Jon Reed (bass, backup vocals) had heard some of Tim's songs from a demo cd and drunk-dialed Tim to see if he'd like to jam. Once Jon found out that Tim was putting together a project he joined to play bass and sing backup vocals. All they needed now was a good lead guitar player. The first response they got from the local city paper was from Alex Eliopoulos (lead guitar, backup vocals) who could also sing. Three could sing, four could drink, so they decided to start a band.
Red Right Return have just released an EP, Sidewalk Diamonds and are currently playing shows in DC and on the East Coast.
