About me…
I don't want to hold the stereotype of the common “reggae singerâ€, I'm JUST a reggae singer... I don't try to look like a Rastaman, cause I'm not a Rastaman... I'm just me, GIOPS: I play roots reggae music as Marley taught and I try to be original!
My lyrics and my look are genuine and sincere… in fact I try to suit “roots reggae†to a modern and fresh conception, drawn on my real life style. I’m sure about a thing: you could not be better than yourself… and in music listeners perceive and appreciate that.
This is my peculiarity: who feels it, knows it.
I'm here to demonstrate that REGGAE MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE, because MUSIC HAS NO RACE!
I'm Italian and I love Italy… but I sing in English: I want to spread my message out of here.
I believe in my music... and I’ll never give up to fight to demonstrate its value: God bless all the people that still believe in their art in this days where it’s so hard to survive with it.
About my music…
I’ve decided to dedicate my life carrying out musical work begun by Bob Marley that, because of his premature death, unfortunately broke off in the beginning of 80s.
In fact, after Bob passed away, nobody was be able to keep reggae music to its TOP as he did: that is why now it has remained a niche music… although it has skilled performers.
That’s also the reason why reggae followed other ways and was contaminated by other genres (hip-hop above all).
Despite that, any modern form of reggae attained the same success of Bob Marley reggae, denominated “ROOTSâ€.
Nowadays, after almost 30 years after his death, Bob keeps being the most listened and sold reggae artist in the World… and just this should let us thinking over.
Who affirms that “Roots Reggae†is “out of fashion†says that because, in point of fact, nowadays there are no Roots Reggae projects with an international following (aside from some exceptions, but they are a few and they can't reach Marley, Tosh and other 70s artists level anyhow)… but there are A LOT OF PEOPLE that love that kind of music: they are just waiting for fresh talents!
That’s the aim of GIOP's project: demonstrate that Roots Reggae music, played with good melodies and good musicians, is an everlasting kind of music like Rock, Jazz and Blues.
