About Me

I am a retired professional who worked as a psychotherapist in the mental health field for 20 years. All that time I spent hours daydreaming about the days I would no longer be regulated by clocks and calendars. Now I sleep when I'm tired and get up when I'm rested. Other than that, I've reached a stage in my life where I've decided I'm not doing anything I don't want to do and doing everything I want.
Most of my time is still spent looking for ways to challenge the status quo and fight injustices on many fronts. Although not as active in politics now, there is still plenty that can be done from home as my email friends can attest to by the volume of issues to which they have been alerted and asked to take action.
I love summer thunder storms, especially when there is a lot of lightening. I love listening to the sound the wind makes as it sings through the evergreen trees. I love waking up on a hot steamy summer morning to the songs of birds and I love my cats.
There are seven cats who live with me. When not cleaning litter boxes or going to the store for litter and cat food, we are sitting on the computer doing research, playing mah jong or cards or talking to friends. Or just cozied up in the bed sleeping until one of them slaps me awake so I will get up to turn on the faucet in the bathroom sink so they can drink running water. It's a cat thing!
I am extremely health conscious. I eat lots of ice cream for calcium, eat all the vegetables on my pizza, eat only fruit pies and make sure I get plenty of fried chicken for protein.

My Interests

Music and beauty feed my soul. I love blues and classical music, the latter, mostly piano compositions of the Romance period. Art of most kinds stimulates something inside that goes beyond the daily rituals of living, although there is much to be admired about the world on a daily basis. I love antique glassware and collect Lefton, Fenton and some crytal.

I'd like to meet:

Life is full of exciting experiences, most of them because of the people we know. People who are a little to the left, believe in themselves and are commited to their values are people I find I'm the most comfortable having as friends. Being truthful and saying what is on their mind is a given.

Music:

In additon to blues and classical music, I listen to some jazz and do like the energy in hip hop. In my opinion, it is the new Urban Blues. My granddaughter thinks it cool that I like Dr. Dre and a lot of the same artists she listens to. It only proves my point. Music is a great cohesive device and one that can span generations. If you want to know what the younger generation is thinking and feeling, listen to the music.

Movies:

I like anything that Johnny Depp does, or Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman. One of my favorite female actresses is Kathy Bates.
The movie, "The Color Purple" is one I've watched several times and see something new in it each time. Counter to popular critisim, I thought "Beloved" was a great film and a good adaptation of the book by the same name by Tony Morrison who is one of my favorite authors.

Television:

Any thing with good dialog, well performed and lacking in violence. I like "Judging Amy" because it addresses social issues as does "Law and Order".

Books:

All of my life I have devoured books, sometimes reading as many as five in a week. There have been some favorite fiction like "The Temple of my Familiar" and most of James Balwin's books. Most recently I purchased a composite of writings by Florence Schoval Schinn, whom I have read in the past. I don't know if I will open that book or not. Right now I have the attention span of a mosquito.

Heroes:

Jeanne d'Arc, Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Wilson Mandelia, Bruce Lee, Dennis Banks, my dad and my mother who gave me an appreciation for music, art, poetry and admiration and respect for nature and the environment. Any one who fights for what they believe in.
