About Me

No, I was not one of of the kids in the Depeche Mode 101 movie....to answer that infamous question I always get....but I was a part of that scene, time and place and grew up listening to WLIR/WDRE. I am known for my 80s new wave parties but I spin all genres of music. I began studying music in 1977 at age 9 as the protegee of the Director at Westminster Choir College Conservatory in Princeton, NJ, doing classical piano recitals at Princeton University by age 12. I then went on to a performing arts high school, studying acting and music, and majored in theatre/music in college. I spent 1991 to 2000 performing in professional off-broadway and off-off-broadway theatres in New York, performing in mostly underground and avant garde theatrel. I spent a year as a piano player for a Chinese opera company. I started working in the club scene in 2003 when I hosted and promoted my first party, in midtown Manhattan at Siberia bar and packed the entire club, making an excellent profit. I didn't learn how to DJ until January of 2005, when I started to have my own regular Depeche Mode parties at Rare in the Meatpacking District. By July of 2005, I had a new monthly residency at The Raven Cafe in the East Village, spinning psychedelic, glam, garage, new wave and post-punk. The Raven Cafe burned down in a fire so I began spinning at Boulevard Tavern in Greenpoint. I then had a weekly residency at Fix Cafe in Williamsburg (obscure new wave, 80s pop, punk), a bi-weekly residency after that at Loki Lounge in Park Slope (new wave, rock/pop/world/funk/soul/garage/psych), a weekly guest residency at Luke & Leroy "Corrosion" new wave party, a weekly residency at Mr. Dennehy's Pub (rock/pop/world) and in 2007, a monthly residency at Double Down Saloon in the East Village (hardcore/punk/post punk). I have guested and/or hosted my own parties at the following dance clubs and bars: Remote Lounge (new wave), Rebel (new wave), Karma (rock/pop), Blu Lounge (Depeche Mode party & new wave party), Planet Thailand (world), ICU Bar, The Mean Fiddler (new wave), QXTs (new wave), Giorgio Gomelsky's Pad (60s psych), Abstraction (dark wave/industrial), "Asylum" (new wave), Opus 22 (new wave), Trash Bar (new wave), Down the Hatch (pop), G Bar (old skool hip hop and rap), East Village Lounge (Depeche Mode/Smiths nite), The Mark Bar (classic rock/pop/world/new wave/punk/soul), Moomia Lounge (new wave), Club Midway (all genres of music, including a night with Martin Moscrop of A Certain Ratio), Sound Fix (with Martin Moscrop), Fontanas (Joy Division night), Lit (darkwave), Shadowlands (goth/pagan party), Otto's Shrunken Head (ska/rock/new wave/punk, etc.), and in March of 2008, a gig at South Night Club ("Another Planet") with Dave Haslam in Manchester, UK (post punk night) and a Smiths/Morrissey night at Rehab in April 2008 with the Sons and Heirs, Rififi in April, 2008. I DO NOT LIKE lame "indie" or "emo" current crap bands such as the Killers, but if I am forced to play such idiocy at particular gigs for the sake of the money and the sake of the crowd, I will do so, most likely while choking on my beer and trying not to drown in it.I had a guest hour on XM Radio nationwide specializing in obscure new wave that was heard on "Surface Noise" - (Fred, Ch. 44). In 2006 and 2007 I had a two-hour weekly internet radio program where I specialized in obscure post-punk, punk and new wave on Altrokradio.com.For updates on where my gigs are, check my blog and calendar of events right here on this page. For flyers/posters of a few previous events, click on my "pics" under "DJ Shred Events 2005-2008." Thanks

My Interests

Please do not feed the pigeons. They are a nuisance.

I'd like to meet:

People who like the music I play and the music I like. People in Manchester who want to hear me spin there next year again, and people in New York who have shared those precious "Malibu/Spize/Bank/Danceteria days" with me.
