I've been tattooing Since 1995 and the three most important things i have learned about people is:
1) Karma is real and it will make you happier than dumb luck and WAY more miserable than random bad luck, so pay attention.
2) When you open your yapper and say something you shouldn't , as i often do, if you get called out and your right don't back off. In fact repeat yourself to the card-puller in question so you can make sure they heard you correctly. And if you get called out and you're wrong, apologize and mean it because character goes a long way towards mending pride.
3) and probably most important, helping your friends is never a waste of time. They may not always be there when you WANT them, but they will always be there when you NEED them.
Centrally located in historic Riverside, I am interested in a new kind of experience for the serious tattoo client. The artists at the shop got together to create an environment where their clients can get more individualized attention. With less distractions and traffic than a walk-in street shop, I have the solution for those of you who want more from your artist than constant interruptions from phone calls, other customers interrupting, crying children and the feeling that your artist can't wait to be done. If you're looking for an artist that will take the time to work with you and see your vision through to the end, just call me to set up an appointment for a consultation (904.403.9813). Keep in mind that when you leave a message at this number, you are contacting me directly, not a shop phone where someone may or may not pass on the message. Leave your name, phone number and the best time of day to call you and I'll return your call as soon as possible.
4 FACTS ABOUT NICK WAGNER'S TATTOOS
1)I AM $140 AN HOUR!!!! Not $150, $160 or the recently heard $180 an hour. I don't know who's telling people $180 but damn! It's $140 an hour for custom work and a flat price on some things that i can price on the spot.
2)I no longer do tattoos on minors. If you are under 18, don't bother. Over the last twelve years i have found that even if a 16 or 17 year old does manage to not pick out something that ISN'T ridiculously small (because they are scared...fuckin' pussies), or stupid as fuck (no sense of style or clarity of thought developed yet), they inevitably end up either not taking care of it or never putting sunblock on it, so it's trashed witin 5 years (not enough maturity to appreciate how permanent tattoos are and why you should take care of them). There are exceptions to these generalizations, but they are far and few between. AND, don't even think about appealling to the "Hey, you were young once too." argument: I didn't get my first tattoo until i was twenty.
3)You DO need an consultation before getting tattooed by me. The reason i do this is to get a better feel of where you want the tattoo, what you are getting tattooed and why you are getting your tattoo. Some things can be worked out online for out of town clients, but the more personal attention i can give your idea, the better i can execute the design.
4)I DO have a wait. I only do so many tattoos a day so that you get the best tattoo possible. I no longer do the meatgrinder, "as many tattoos as possible a day" shit. I want to do serious tattoos for serious clients, so i am realistic about how many tattoos i can do well in one day. If you can't wait, call to see if i have a cancellation, but beyond that, be patient or move on to someone who doesn't give a shit about anything other than how much loot you have. I WILL MAKE IT WORTH THE WAIT.
5 MYTHS ABOUT NICK WAGNER'S TATTOOS
1) I work out of my house.....are you fucking kidding me? No, i do NOT work out of my house. I DO work out of a house that is zoned for commercial use with two other artists, but NO ONE lives there. It is just a really comfortable, laid back tattoo shop.
2) I don't do small tattoos, just sleeves and backpieces: BULLSHIT. I don't care what size your tattoo is as long as it is big enough to last over time.
3) I only tattoo for 2-5 hours at a time: WRONG. While I prefer to work on pieces for longer periods of time, sometimes my clients want to get an hour at a time. Sometimes that's all they want or can afford, so that's what I do. Better they should make a little progress on their tattoo than none.
4) You need a LOT of money to get tattooed by me: Tattoos cost as much as they cost. I get paid more per hour than others, but i give you more than 90% of the other tattooers out there. AND when you add up most of people's stamp collection of tattoos, they COULD have afforded a much nicer, MUCH larger tattoo than they got. You will ALWAYS get more by hourly than by single shot tattoos. Also, a lot of my clients bring in $20-$100 at a time so they can build up their money BEFORE their tattoo, so they don't have to give up a lot the day of their sitting
5) I won't do tattoos people bring me off the internet: NOT TRUE. I WILL change something or redraw the design if given the opprotunity, but sometimes I WILL do the design as presented if that's what the customer wants. HOWEVER, I will NOT do a poor design that i KNOW i can draw a better image of. Some things people bring me are just SHIT. The idea is sound, and I can work with it, but the image they bring to me is shot out, and needs real work. The problem is that some customers think i am shitting on their idea, I'm not. I just want to give my customers the best design possible. If that means i lose a potential client here and there because I won't do substandard work, so be it. After all, I am here to do SERIOUS WORK FOR SERIOUS CLIENTS.
