Metro Stylee 1995 - 1999
CDs Available at BiB Records
Formed by Andy Stylee in the mid 90's, Metro Stylee quickly became "the band you either love or love to hate". No matter which side of the fence you were on, it was kinda hard to resist the soulful, yet quirky vibe of Metro Stylee. Playboy dubbed them "band ready for the big time" in their 1997 music issue, and the Stylees played twice at SXSW, on the same bill as the not yet famous Hives. MS also recorded "My Boy Lollipop" with it's original writer, Ernest Ranglin, which is featured on this myspace page, and never before released.
Metro Stylee was featured on many ska compilations, interviewed in many zines, and even had a Japan release of their album. They released their debut "Soul Garage Ska" in 1997-8, and also had a limited edition cassette tape that Andy guerilla-marketed around ska shows and festivals. The band had additional songs, around 15-18 that were never professionally recorded, but are on this page as demo versions. Hopefully, myspace will update the server, and these songs will be up soon!
The band played constantly throughout the northeast, securing a loyal fan base with the college kids and teenage girls (were they in love with Andy and Eric or Trisha and Jane?!).
We played our last show to a sold out knitting factory crowd in 98 with kicked in the head, and other bands.
After lots of crazy emails from friends and fans, I decided to start this myspace page as a tribute to the band that definitely changed my life, and blessed me with good friends, whom I now appreciate even more in retrospect.
So enjoy the music, and please send us pictures and memories.
