Darren Matthews

My name is Darren Matthews, I was born in Wolverhampton on the 9th of July 1973. My first interest in music came around the age of 10. My parents bought me a little Casio keyboard and from the first time I played my first note I was hooked and a love affair with music began.As I grew older, so did my keyboard collection. I started learning everything about music such as chords, scales, progressions and just about anything else that would help me. I had many keyboards, each one bigger and better than the last and eventually I had a go at writing my own music, along with my brother who plays guitar.The very first song I composed was at the age of 17 and it was entitled ‘Orchestral Rock’ and featured my brother on guitar. I had no idea what an impact that song would have on my music in the future. My parents, who are so proud of what I do, loved the song so much they took it to the local radio station in the hope that it could be played on air. I don’t think any of us expected deep down that it would be played. Imagine our surprise when a journalist from the local newspaper knocked on our door one Saturday morning and told us that the song was going to be played the following week. It was like we’d hit the big time as we had our photo taken and a reporter interviewed my dad about us. As promised, it was played on air and at the time I didn’t think life could get any better than that. It made my mind up to keep writing music and to make each one better than the last.My brother and I continued to write music and still do, only we both do our own thing now. Writing music is a huge love of my life and I’d never ever stop now, it’s like a drug and I’m completely addicted to it.I am no different to anyone in that we all have dreams and ambitions, but even though most of us never have them come true I am going to give everything I have got into making a name for myself in the world of music. As someone once said, you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.One hope I have is that I will become successful in Film and TV and get my name on as many credits as I possibly can. I know I am good enough, everyone who has heard my music has said as such and they all have faith in me.Not only do I want to write music for Film and TV, but also I want to record a New Age album and be a successful recording artist. I know others have done both and made big names for themselves. The influences mentioned above have all done both exceptionally well, so why can’t I?I hope that when this has been read and my music listened to you will take a huge interest in what I have had to say. You may hear it and not like it, which is fine with me. Everyone has their own opinions and tastes but I am sure that my music will leave an impression on whoever listens to it.I write every song with my heart; so much time, effort and emotion goes into each song and I think that reflects itself in the music. I am not in it for the money, but for the love of music and I will continue to love composing even if I never fulfill my dreams. But I am sure that with all the love I have for writing music, I will be successful.I want to thank you for letting me have a few minutes of your time to show you what I am about musically.
