About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 -Patrícia Marx was, in the 80’s a phenomenon inside the phenomenon that was the teen music at that time. After making part, during four years, of the group Trem da Alegria, wich made a resounding national success, since 1988 she developed a very commercially successful solo career, represented by 3 albuns launched by BMG.So, time passed by, teenage has finished and Patricia has started, as it was unavoidable, her artistic growth. First, in 1982, she has done a album for the Japanese market, called “Neoclassico”, interpretating standards of the Brazilian music, from Pixinguinha to Tom Jobim, from Noel Rosa to Rita Lee. Afterwards, from 1995 to 1998, already incorporating the “Marx” to her artistic name, she has recorded, with a Nelson Mota production and for his solo, the Lux Music/ Universal, three albuns, the first of them with the song “Quando Chove”(When it Rains), that has become a hit in the soap opera “A Viagem” (The Trip), of Globo TV.Afterwards, in 1988, Patrícia travelled to New York and more nine cities in Japan to divulge “Millenium”, a compilation with some of the best moments of the singer during all her career. The live versions of “Samba de Verão” (Summer Samba), with Marcos Valle and “Sabiá”, with Nando Cordel, open the set of 20 hits of Patricia, that, after this album, decides to stop to “breath” for four years.Meantime she got married to the producer Bruno E, with whom she has had one son e took the chance to meditate and recycle ideas. Four years after, back from her retreat, it appears a new Patricia, musically more sophisticated and elaborated. In the album “Respirar”(Breath), issued by Trama, in 2001, it signs, at the same time, with a continuation and a jump referring to the formers. A continuation because this happens through the incorporation of electronic elements that were brand new to the music she uses to do (“Respirar” is a Brazilian electronic music disc, directed to the public of this production, here and in Europe)Besides that, Patricia appears, for the first time as a composer (only one of the 12 sound tracks doesn’t have her signature, what confers to the disc an authorial status) and also as a producer, function shared with Bruno E, producer of electronic music, nu-jazz and soul music and Mad Zoo, the greatest producer from São Paulo of hip hop, nu jazz, break beat and soul music. From the British electronic scenery – where she shines us one of the greatest stars in this album – the 4Hero.The participation of the group marks the second chapter of the history of an association startes 5 years ago, when Patricia was invited to go to London, to sing for their disc – the “Creating Patterns”.In 2002, Patricia went to live in London for one year, to promote her album and made three tours around Europe. Performing in the main European capitals, in places such us Favela Chic (Paris), ICA, Cargo, Notting Hill Carnival, Momo´s (London), La Palma Jazz Club (Rome), Quasimodo Jazz Club (Berlin), Amsterdan, Vienna, Lisbon, Swiotzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands and others.Europe, precisely London, means a key word to explain Patricia´s musical match. It comes from there the electronic elements searched to mix with the ones already known here (samba, soul, bossa, blues, jazz); mainly the sounds from broken beat (term used for broken beats with Brazilian music influence). With the references of the many cities during her permanence in Europe, she tried to insert everything in her new work. Than, it appears a disc that marks the sound and esthetic rupture in the artist’s career. More mature, now with 30 years old, besides composing, she does cords arrangements and electronic programming, bringing influences from the London houses of black music and broken beats.Baptized “Patrícia Marx”, the homonymous title marked a new age of creation and autonomy. This self titled album is a continuation of the new vision posited on Respirar (Patricia's last album), lovingly refined to showcase an even more globally aware perspective and an even more diverse take on her distinctively soulful sound. It's without a doubt Patricia's most fluid, personal and mature album. It packs the natural, breezy elements that characterised her last outing. As fluid as a bass undulation, as sweet as a bright melody, as languorous as sleepy handclaps. Patricia Marx is very much her own phenomenon and her brand of weightless, anti-gravity, vaporous, lazy soul is set to take over the world.Currently playlisted on France's Radio Nova, DJ Magazine also added their praise, "Scott, Badu and Hill best watch out because there's a new girl on the block and she's got Brazilian soul..." Produced by mostly Patricia herself, Bruno E, 4hero, this album is a captivating blend of brazilian nu soul and jazz. Joining the musical between Sampa and Dollis Hill, this slice of sunny, heartfelt music.Focused on what was always present in all her former jobs: her soul singing – this that suggests us to let ourselves go through her seduction power. In a very comfortable atmosphere, she passes by the “free-style” in her jazz melodies, with 70s nuances.Burning Luv - Patricia Marx @ Cadogan Hall London
