My Background Bio...
My family and close friends know me as John-John.
I grew up in Glen Cove Long Island, New York.
I started out as a musician before I became a boxer.
Between the ages of 12 and 15, I was a drummer in a band called the Dynamics.
We were on our way to become stars.
We were a very hot group at the time until we broke up in 1971.
Then my boxing career started at age 15.
My father one day asked me if I wanted to go to the movies.
He didn't tell me what we were seeing and for some strange reason I didn't ask
To my amazement when I got to the movie theater, above my head was the marquis sign that read AKA CASSIUS CLAY
(Also known as Muhammad Ali)
This movie was an epiphany in the start of my boxing career
5 years later after 125 amateur fights with only 5 loses and 55 KO's, I was to embark on my journey to the 1976 Olympics.
All the hard training had not prepared me for what was about to happen when I left for the Olympics to Montreal, Canada.
After being there 3 days prior to my first fight I had to hear the news of my mother passing away from a heart attack.
My initial reaction to this news was to go home.
I could always remember my mother's last words prior to getting on the plane was "Goodluck and you better bring home that gold!"
I could actually hear her voice talking to me about bringing that gold medal home.
This was my second epiphany.
Instead of leaving, I stayed and I DID win that gold medal, for her.
God Bless my mother Catherine
.. My greatest asset, people tell me is that I have a connection with others.
The people I meet on a daily basis, motivate me.
I train people all day and I am almost never tired of doing what I do.
I try my best to motivate others and better their lives physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
This is my connection with god through others.
People tell me that I am a calm person.
There is a special auora about me.
I have been told that when I train my clients that they feel they can always accomplish their goals.
Whether it is their diet, their physical activity, or them working out
they always tell me they feel like they can accomplish anything through my spirit.
I think this is what I was born to do.
Teach and motivate through health and nutrition.
I enjoy my family, good conversation, good company, producing and recording music, reading, theology and african history, a good restaurant, training my clients, lecturing/motivational speaking, my friends (not many) I can count them on one hand, smooth jazz, watching TV, and long walks. I have been married twice, I am looking to get married again someday, they say third times a charm but I haven't found her yet.
I love to laugh and enjoy a good joke
