More than any music ever heard before Gangster Rap is all about story telling and theses stories can sometimes be criminal minded or Gang Orientated making them enthralling and unbelievable these stories can only be as convincing as the story teller or in most cases the person who the story is about.
Thats why when ever you put your ear to the streets of Baton Rouges most notorious neighborhood (The South Side) theres one story that is bound to capture any ones attention. It is the story of the south sides realest Silky Slim born Arthur Reed. Silky is a product of the streets he was raised in the streets of South Baton Rouges roughest neighborhood the Bottom, where he became a street legend and Baton Rouges Original Gangster Rapper as one half of the rap group Bottom Posse. Intimately familiar with the codes of the streets and its violence Silky has al ways taking his own path.
In the late 80s Silky a long with his child hood friend formed Baton Rouges first street gang The South Side Wrecking Crew. The gang was born into the drug dynasty of the late 80s and early 90s this took Silky and his Crew members to the block where they netted a small fortune and earned silky the reputation of Da head Bussa and also earned him a very lengthy rap sheet and several prison sentences that would keep Silky off the rap scene and place his career on hold .While serving his time silky would keep up with the rap scene via Bet and Mtv along with other locale video shows. After serving his latest sentence Silky came home with a plan to take over the rap game in his region. Before going to prison Silky had already started working on his album, but that was placed on hold until he finished his time. It was while watching one of these video shows. That Silky would wake up and realize that he was wasting his life away doing time for the system. While watching David Banners latest video Silky spotted his lil home boy from his hood Lil Hatch A.K.A Lil Boosie just a few weeks before him and Lil Boosie where working on Keep It Gutta the now Ghetto Anthem of the Dirty South. This was enough to put Silky in a different state of mind, and made him realize that the spot light was really turning towards his home town. The last time this happened, an up and coming rapper had made his way into South Baton Rouge looking for local talent to feature on his up and coming CD.
Silky once again was left out of the picture serving a sentence for being a convicted felon with a fire arm. His child hood friends would go on to become some of the hottest rap artist of the late 90s Young Bleeds how ya do that there took over the rap game under the No Limit umbrella of Master P. Silky once again couldnt believe this was happening. He had just left the studio months earlier watching Young Bleed lace the exact same track that had now become the Dirty Souths chant song for the thugs and thug girls. Silky never gave in to the pressure and the struggle of the music industry or the prison system. He remained determined and dropped the Ghetto Classic Ghetto Tears. Why black balled by the industry for his rawlessness. Silky still manages to keep it gutta and show the world what it really means to be from the gutta something that a lot of rappers have failed to do. Silky has a very unique style of rap it is gangster but also meaningful.
Silky feels as if hes been held back because of his past life (Ive falling on my knees many nights asking God why I had to see so much or why I went through so much. He didnt give me an answer I guess because he feels Im smart enough to already no) Silky is Quoted as saying.
