NorfulMichael Johnson, born July 5, in Mansfield, Ohio was created for ministry through song. Michael, better known as Mykejay remembers singing his first solo at age 4. It was If anybody ask you who I am, Tell them Im a Child of God, Mykejay remembers. Gods plan for his life soon began to develop by age 9. Mykejay was singing every chance he had, being apart of the Boys choir of Waco as well as the City-wide youth choir. Mykejay has always had a desire for music ministry. By age 11, God allowed Mykejay to experience lifes hard knocks. Being removed from his biological family and placed in foster homes, Mykejay travel through many households and many cities before he found his home in Austin, TX. I never lost God, although it felt like Id lost everything else says Mykejay. By age 14, Mykejay accepted Christ began to walk in his calling as a psalmist. Singing solos every chance he was afforded as well as being a part of the Austin Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA). In addition to singing, Mykejay also discovered his talent to direct. By age 16, Mykejay was directing choirs in the greater Austin area and singing at every musical with every choir in town. It was that same year he united with James Calahan and DeChard Freeman and the ministry of No Weapon (isa. 54:17) was birthed. I love it everyday! There are not a lot of BETTER things that could happen for me in ministry thus farMykejay says. Mykejay has used his gifts to minister all across Texas as well as other parts of the United States. Mykejay has been favored of God to share the stage with many Gospel Greats such as Kirk Franklin, Bobby Jones and the Nashville Super Choir, Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Mississippi Mass Choir, Trin-i-Tee 5:7 and J Moss just to name a few. Mykejay has sang in many local, state, and nationally acclaimed choirs such as The Austin Chapter of GMWA, The Texas Mass Choir, Chester Baldwin and the Music Ministry Mass Choir. His solo efforts has afforded him the privileged to work with many ministries and other groups such as, Rayshod Caldwell and CWV, Simple Plan Blue October, Peculiar Image B.L.U.E. and a host of others. Mykejay currently serves in music ministry at the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church (Gaylon C. Clark, senior pastor) as the director of the Generations youth music ministry, under the tutor ledge of Pastor George B. Powell. He is also a Student at Huston-Tillotson University in pursuit of a B.A. in Music Education and performance. Upon his fall 2006 completion, Mykejay plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin in pursuit of a M.M. in sacred music. Mykejay is also a member of Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity Inc. and the Schola. Cantourium of Austin
