A native of Harvey, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Stewart is most known for penning and producing hits by some of the biggest names in the industry, among them, 112, Aaron Hall, B2K, Blu Cantrell, Carl Thomas, Chante’ Moore, Charlie Wilson, Go West, Karyn White, Kci & Jojo, Keith Washington, and Tony, Toni, Tone. He has also contributed music to many feature films and soundtracks including House Party, White Men Can’t Jump, and Soul Food. In 1991, Stewart and writing partner Tony Haynes formed the Groove Asylum Production Company. Soon he was co-producing songs with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and fielding calls from the likes of Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, Sylvia Rhone, legendary MCA Records’ executive Louis Silas and Island Records chief Chris Blackwell. While sharpening his creative skills he continued to fine-tune his business acumen. He began signing writers, among them his then 17-year-old brother, Christopher “Tricky†Stewart and cousin Sean “Sep†Hall. Stewart also brought Mark, his other brother, into the publishing partnership. He and Mark worked with the young writers, developing their skills and expanding the catalog. Stewart’s publishing success is seen in songs by Pink, Sisqo, and Tyrese and on hits by JT Money, “Who Dat†(ASCAP and Billboard Rap Song of the Year-1999), Mya “Case of the Exâ€, 3LW “No More†and B2K “Uh-Huhâ€. Additionally, he developed award winning songwriter Tab, and hit mix engineer Kevin “KD†Davis. Soon after, Stewart signed a publishing deal with Kenneth “Babyface†Edmonds. It was by way of this blossoming relationship with Edmonds that Stewart worked with Madonna, Shanice, and Toni Tony Tone. Stewart saw success again in 2002 when he entered into another publishing joint venture, 24/12-Morningside Trail. His recent publishing credits include songs performed by B2K, Jagged Edge, Omarion, and Patti Labelle, singles “All Because of You†Marques Houston, “Girl Fight†Brooke Valentine, “Okay†Nivea featuring Lil’ John, and the Billboard award-winning single, “Me Against The Music†Britney Spears featuring Madonna. Currently Stewart is developing new talent signed to his entertainment company.
