About Me

Music producer, mix engineer and instrumentalist Dino Sofos was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He played keyboards for rock and electronic bands but disillusioned by the music scene, relocated to London and soon after joined alternative band Fetish as keyboardist. Regarded as one of the top alternative rock groups in their home country South Africa, they released 2 album’s, the second of which was signed to Virgin records and East/West in Germany. They had a number of singles chart in the South African top 10 music charts, a number 1 and supported the Smashing Pumpkins, Goo Goo Dolls, The Cult, Skunk Anansie and Lenny Kravitz on their SA tours.

After extensive live gigs on the London music circuit between 2002-2004 including Ocean and Shepherd's Bush Empire and a live performance and interview on BBC World Radio he left the band to write and produce his own music as well as continue working as a mix engineer.

Although more partial to scoring film soundtracks, his first music release in 2003 was a chill-out song called "Breathe Sunshine". Co-produced by Craigie Dodds (Sugababes) the song became an underground hit, being voted 4th best single in 2004 by the The Big Chill (music festival) in the UK and catching the attention of international AIDS charity Dance4Life. In 2005 DJ Paul van Dyk who had remixed U2, Depeche Mode, Faithless and Underworld amongst others heard the song and impressed with the song's unusual melodies and chordal structures remixed it for the dancefloor. This put the artist on the international map and all proceeds from the remix have gone onto the charity.

The original song appeared on other compilation albums and reached no.2 on Apple’s iTunes electronic stores at the end of 2005. It has since been remixed by other DJ's including mega-Drum & Bass outfit Black Sun Empire, DJ Irene (US) and G-Spott (Holland).

In 2006 he wrote a full-length electronica album titled "Awakening" released through his own record label and on CD under the name Moab. The music is a mix of down-tempo, breakbeat and ambient soundscape songs and includes vocals from Lucie Burns who sung with Asian Dub Foundation, Jose Padilla (Cafe Del Mar) and Afterlife (Steve Miller).

Off the back of his album he has written soundtracks for UK and international trailers including the award winning international film "Road to Guantanamo", "The Beautiful Game", TV trailers for "Desperate Housewives" and the films "Solaris" and "28 Days Later" amongst others.

He has also co-produced a growing number of dance remixes with promo director/progressive house DJ Damien Chicken under the name Unbroken. Their remixes have regularly featured in the DJ sets of Nick Warren, Digweed , Dave Seaman and Hernan Cattaneo amongst others.
