Music is an interesting subject. At times I listen to the music that only captures my feelings musically and ignore the lyrics or make them my own by redefining what they're saying.
At other times, I find lyrics that awaken my soul, but doesn't revive me musically.
On very rare occasions, these two powers are combined to be a gut-wreching, life-bringing, God-connecting song that not only revives me musically, but is a message I can rest my soul and my mind in. Those are the songs that I will cherish forever.Without further ado, these are some of the bands that have inspired me either musically, lyrically, or spiritually:
Cole Damoth Revelations - My own music. Passionate worship, creative expressions, and written to recreate the experiences I have had with God in you.
Delirious? - Worship with some of the most descriptive lyrics of God combined with music that breaks the mold.
Audioslave - Light My Way, I feel you Chris! Some of the most amazing guitar compositions, sometimes I can just listen and let the music soothe my soul.
Creed - Faceless Man, "Next time I see this face, I'll say, I choose to live, for always, so won't You come inside, and never go away." Wrong Way, the song of my pathos. Inside Us All, brings me sweet comfort when I am down, the Holy Spirit imbues me. Higher, the song of my dreams.
U2 - Their struggle, their faith, their passion to make a difference, their worship, their prayers. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," haven't we all felt that way sometime? But, thank God the day of the outpouring of miracles is here!
Pearl Jam - The music that identifys with my soul's passion at times. They'll rock you out and just when you think it can't get any better, they take it to the next level.
Live - Their music inspired me much. Their sound is just amazing to draw out emotion. The Distance to Here has amazing outcrys for God.
Lifehouse - Simple outcrys from a young man who knows God. Something I can very much identify with. And some of the revelations he grasps of God, amazing.
Frou Frou - By Imogen Heap, love her music. Amazingly innovative, beautiful, and emotional.
Imogen Heap - Her solo projects. Clever, original, and heartfelt.
Aerosmith - Amazing musicians, Steven Tyler has an amazing voice. Joe Perry's guitar just sings. The best of Rock n' Roll.
Jimmy Eat World - In the Middle, don't we all feel this way sometimes? Refreshingly happy.Dave Matthews Band - Innovation. Amazing music, inspired my creativity a lot. And sometimes I can just draw my own meaning from the songs and cry.
Rage Against the Machine - Wake up! Their guitar creativity and adrenaline inspiring energy.
Bjork - Her Icelandic voice is so unique and her originality refreshing.
Atlantis Morisette - Too angry at times, but good compositions.
Brian McKnight - Sometimes it's just the simple love songs that get to me.
Usher - Yeah! So, Usher's got some groove going on too.
Monica - Angel of mine, a great love song.
Michael Jackson - Yeah, so now I'm a fan as many others. Amazing charisma.
Daft Punk - One More Time! I need to hear more!
Goo Goo Dolls - Some of the best popular rock out there. Sometimes all you need is four chords to set a dynamic, emotional stage.Coldplay - Heartfelt & beautiful.
Linkin Park - The music of adrenaline. A sick assimilation of new music techniques to make an amazing sound.
Disturbed - Their radio hit is frankly amazing. Caution for young, fragile minds though.
Avenged Sevenfold - New hard metal that plays on the genre itself, musically engaging.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Scream integrated melodic rock, it rocks! I'm loving the evolution of mainstream rock.
Anthony Skinner - Amazingly pure heart, worships every morning. Refreshingly simple and easily engaging worship songs that truly paint what God's like.
Brian Johnson - The sound of my home church, where I bleed, sweat, and prayed many years and saw many miracles and cried over many defeats.
Don Potter - Writes amazing descriptive songs about God that lead you into His presence. And...he grooves.
Jason Upton - Passionate for God is the one word I'd use to describe him, and anyone who writes music like that I tend to love.
Dido - Crafting an atmosphere, a feeling, is what music is all about, and she paints some dynamic pictures.
Van Halen - Humans Being anyone? Can a guitar soar any higher?
Tenacious D - The Greatest Song In the World...Tribute, is hilarious.
Beck - Oh, what you can do with sound and nonsense.
The Beatles - Of course I've experienced the Beatles and appreciated their compositions.
Jimi Hendrix - Sparatically spontaneous guitar player, creates a dynamic energy with his music.
DC Talk - Amazing truths caught by this band. Now it's finally old enough that I can listen to old school rap and just enjoy it.
Guardian - Swing, Swang, Swung. This band can wail like few Christian bands can, and their acoustic worship alblum pours sweet oil over my soul.
Switchfoot - Meant To Live, constantly pushing us to seek for more. Relevant and encouraging.
Billie Holiday - Sometimes the classic voices harness music in the most powerful ways.
Irvine Berlin - You'd be suprised how many songs you know by this guy. Favorite good ol' Tin Pan Alley composer.
John Williams - Huge fan of his movie compositions. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.
Braveheart soundtrack - Just listening to this music awakens my soul for war, for love, for purpose to live.
Third Day - Just to Be With You, I've Always Loved You, Thief. I could just sit and listen forever to those paintings of God's love.
Bush - Classic 90s sound of alternative.
Plankeye - Commonwealth is still one of my favorite alblums of all time. The battle of flesh versus God, and the pictures of God's love.
P.O.D. - Set It Off, the songs which I flew to in one of my dreams. Alive, I feel the same when I experience God's presence! And they have a sound I can drop all my passion out into.
Newsboys - Beautiful Sound, Going Public, so many songs that are just so beautfiul to listen to, and not just musically.
Utada Hikaru - Amazing Japanese pop artist, my first Japanese alblum to engage in their culture.
Shania Twain - So wholesome and good-hearted. A pleasure to listen to.
Avril Lavagine - Writes all her own songs, she has a good heart. Encouraging to listen to.
Nobuo Uematsu - Writer of some of the most amazing video game soundtrack's available.
Robbie Rob - In Time, so 80s, yet so timeless and inspiringly.
IZ - Hawaiian music that'll put you so at rest, it's amazing.
Weird Al Yankovic - This guy is hilarious.
