About Me

I'm 38 years old and live in Spring Hill, TN, but I suppose you've read that already, huh? I moved to Tennessee 10 years ago to pursue music. Things didn't work out as I planned but I love the Nashville area and have made it home.Sometimes I miss my home in Coeburn, Virginia. What to do when your heart is in two places at the same time? I don't know if I could ever be truly settled in one or the other. But Coeburn doesn't offer the job opportunities Nashville does.I love music. It's a huge part of my life. I play several instruments but none will ever take the place of my guitar. I've been playing since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I still suck at it, but I'd honestly hate to think I mastered it. My life would be poorer without the challenge of learning something new on it.I also love to write songs. There's just something about creating something from nothing more than an emotion that I enjoy unlike anything else.Another love of mine is writing. And not just songwriting, mind you. I've been working on a novel forever now. If you ever want to truly respect the great men and women who write for a living, try to pen one yourself. Somedays you love it and other days you wish that damned muse would just stop whispering in your ear. Then you take it back very quickly, lest it really stop.Your results:

My Interests

Music obviously. Writing. A good conversation. It's a lost art. Reading. I'll read just about anything you put in front of me. Maybe that's why I'm so opinionated about some things. I'm not one of those obnoxious people who feel compelled to tell you their opinion about everything, or who tries to ram my opinion down your throat though. That's just wrong. Celebrate diversity, not hate.

I'd like to meet:

Making a big change here. Instead of the usual blah blah about what famous people I'd like to meet, I'm going to say that I'd rather meet a good friend. I've met enough famous people to know they're just human too. Some of them are super nice and some... well, I'll leave my comments g-rated for myspace. 'Nuff Said.Good friends always make life better. They may not always agree with you, but their presence alone somehow makes the bad times more bearable and the good times that much better. And new friends (hint hint, myspace people). I always love to make new friends. I'm not talking about driving up one's friend count so you can feel important. I've made real friends off here and am thankful for them. So if you have similiar interests, feel free to drop me a line.

Music:

My tastes are very eclectic. I listen to Bluegrass, Rock, Country, Celtic, Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, some Pop, Rap, Hip-Hop, and Classical. As a musician myself, I can find inspiration in anything musical. I try not to be too judgemental about music. Even if I hate something I may still be able to glean something from it, even if it's what NOT to do. What's in my CD player right now? Steve Miller Band's Greatest Hits.

Movies:

King Kong, Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Green Mile, Forrest Gump, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the Star Wars films, a lot of classic films like Wizard of Oz, To Kill a Mockingbird, Sound of Music, African Queen, Casablanca, etc. Batman Begins, YOung Frankenstein, Stripes, Goonies, Animal House, Breakfast Club, Psycho, Raiders of the Lost Ark trilogy, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Deliverance, E.T, the old Planet of the Apes movies, anything by M. Night Shyamalan, Fried Green Tomatoes, I don't know there's too many to name. If it has a good story, I'll watch it.

Television:

I don't watch a lot of television these days. I find I can't stomach the glut of reality shows. Boy are those network executives slick! "I have an idea! Let's get some no-talent people and put them together and see what happens or even a good old-fashioned talent show! We'll save tons of money on scriptwriters and actors! We'll begin on MTV so it'll be "cool" (remember when it WAS cool?) and if that flys we'll move the idea to network television!"Pathetic!Hmmm... sounds like one of those opinionated people I was talking about before, huh? But it's the truly how I feel about 99 percent of television these days. Thank God the reality crap has peaked. So what *do* I watch? Well, besides football, TV Land, and the news? Not a lot. I do catch a few shows regularly though. I love Heroes - "Save the cheerleader, save the world". I watch Grey's Anatomy as well. When it was on I usually watched Six Degrees too, but I may have been the only one since it's no longer on.I'm sick to death of doctors, lawyers, and cops. Not in real life, mind you, but on television. Here's a scoop for any network programming guru who may accidentally stumble across this... there are more of us who are not doctors, lawyers, and cops than those of us who are. Drama and comedy abound in other professions as well.

Books:

Anything by C.S. Lewis or Stephen King. And I read a lot of non-fiction works and how-to books.

Heroes:

My dad - May he rest in peace. He showed me what it meant to be a man and a more importantly, a gentleman. By his actions he taught me to take time out to play and pursue things that make you happy. Life is too short to waste with unhappiness. I also learned to be myself, which was hard to do in today's world. Everyone has an expectation. Screw that, be who you are and you'll be better for it.Take time out to play with children and teach them by example not just words. Now that I have a little one on the way myself, his advice on raising children ring more true than ever to me. "A man's greatest work is what he does in his children's lives" and "A man never stands as tall as he does when he takes time to bend down to a child's level."
