About Me

REVIEW by DONALD BUSH of IS THIS MUSIC? MAGAZINE.................................................... ................."A note from reader Ray Favourite, who tells us in his hand-written note that he has "some songs and half a band". Modest chap indeed - the half a band sounds like they are very much the fully formed article with full percussion and strings on 'Don Juan Triumphant!', to say nothing of a small choir (or multitracked vocals) which has a big, even epic sound with lofty ambitions which are just-about realised. Think the Waterboys (music) with Nick Cave (music, vocals and slight strangeness) and you're around quarter-way there. 5 tracks on this demo which we're told he gives away at shows in advance to a proper album. 'Mark an X on My Door' is a top title and the sound - Tom Waits gone industrial - is one to match the comedy skulls and crosses on the hand - drawn sleeve (more of which at his myspace site). Even the titles are deathly cool - 'Ghostownish', 'Salem Plains' - and musically it's got the lot - strummy singalongs, funereal death eulogies, delivered with the menace of Bela Lugosi at Halloween. If we're all going to hell in a handcart then Ray's favourite to be driving the thing." ....(thanks to David Bush for such great words! And no bribes or nuthin'...) ............................................................ ............................................My name is Ray Favourite. Half of that is my real name and the other half is from the Alan Parker movie Angel Heart. Im 25 years old and if I don't get to play guitar once a day I get fidgety. I did Art School where I studied posing, haircuts, brown carpets and David Lynch. Now I paint pictures (they pay me), draw comics (they don't yet) and most of all 'do' music (they don't pay me but they really should). My favourite pub topics are movies (I love Speilberg so Im no snob despite the Art/Film degree), videogames (why is Resi Evil 4 on PS2 better than ALL horror movies?) music (No I don't like Indie or Emo I'm afraid. I do, however, love Rammstein, David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Mercury Rev and The Pixies!) and other typical things you can no doubt second guess ............................................................ ............................................................ ....For anyone interested, my guitars are Gibson, Norman and Epiphone. I also use gear by Bare Knuckle,Mesa/Boogie, Damage Control, Electro-Harmonix, Korg, Boss and Digitech. I am not affiliated with any of these companies, though they should throw some free pedals my way, I reckon. I am obsessed with Greek Mythology, effects pedals, John Carpenter and Alexander the Great. My musical heroes are probably Steve Vai, Vaughan Williams, Dr John, Keith Richards, Jim Morrison, Tom Waits, Bono, David Bowie, Kate Bush, , Michael Stipe, Wayne Coyne, Joe Strummer, John Barry, Eddie Van Halen, Perry Farrell and the usual others. ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .....On a non-musical level I admire people like Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Gustave Dore, Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, David Lynch, Claus Von Stauffenberg, Marie Leveux, George Lucas, Terry Gilliam etc etc. My favourite actors are Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr and Harrison Ford. I love my family and friends very much and quietly think I could do a fairly okay job at running the entire planet. I hope you enjoy my sounds and images, they're my heart and soul, straight up. And with that same heart and soul, I wish you a great day. Thank you for visiting me. .........................................X X X X XAccording to the "Which Big Lebowski character are you?" quiz:

CHIYO STOLE THE NIGHT

Chiyo... is, as far as I can see, a mix between The Stranglers, Tom Waits and Memoirs of a Geisha. It used to be in 4/4 time and had a title like 'Ruby Says' but that didn't mean a whole hell of a lot...

Rose (redux)

Well then, let me tell y'all: THIS is the final version of Rose. Rose is a song that began life as Madge. Why'd I call it that? No huge reason, I needed a one syllable name for the rhythm. Don't know ...
