Sugah Sweetened's passion for music developed first in piano when she began teaching herself how to play her favorite childhood songs at the tender age of five. Throughout her life she went through troubling times which made her love for music stronger. She would also write poetry to express her emotions on paper. Soon her mother and grandmother were able to afford to invest in her love for music and enrolled her in piano lessons and in the Beginning Band playing clarinet at Alexander City Middle School in the fall of 1997.
Sugah excelled in both fields of music especially in the Band. She was the only African American student in the band and was looked down upon by certain students because of her excellence in music. Sugah was in 10th chair in Beginning Band but refused to stay below other students who gave her a hard time by calling her anything but the name her mother had given her in band class. Now motivated she challenged those students until she was 4th chair. She moved forth to Advanced Band in the 8th grade where she was 5th chair. Soon in the 9th grade in Concert band at Benjamin Russell High School she became 2nd chair and afterwards in the 10th grade 1st chair. In the 11th grade she moved up to Symphonic Band where she was 2nd chair until she graduated. She also was in the marching band every year in high school where in the 11th grade she became Section Leader of the Clarinets. The entire time she also maintained her piano lessons and had recitals every year.
After high school, Sugah enrolled in Alabama State University to major in music. Unfortunately she was unable to afford college so she joined the military. In the Army at Fort Hood, Texas she met Shake, soon to be her husband. After serving two years in the military Sugah had an honorable discharge from the Army due to a tragic incident which happened in Operation Iraqi Freedom II. When her husband came back from the war they continued in poetry. Sugah started making a name for herself when they would go read at Under One Roof Book Store. One day Shake bought her a keyboard when he noticed Sugah playing in an Electronics Store. Not long after he started to investing in her music and poetry for the both of them. He created Spit Fire, a poetry group and the group made there first CD “Emergence†which was produced mainly by former Spit Fire Member, Alonzo Wright. Sugah helped in many aspects but was mainly in the background because she didn‘t like the fact that they were not using original beats. The second CD, “Bridging the Gap†was produced by Sugah alone with her own music. Afterwards Sugah produced several other CD’s with Spit Fire along with her friend and co-worker, Big Cricket. Big Cricket and Sugah formed together as the “Wonder Twins†not because they look alike but because of their love for music is one in the same. Sugah now works with Big Cricket in Spit Fire Studios in Killeen, Texas. music layout powered by HOT FreeLayouts.com / MyHotComments
