Destrung is a three piece band from San Diego. Their sound has the energy and quirkiness of bands like Pavement and the Violent Femmes with a raw Lou Reed feel.
Destrung was started by Jonas from the band Buck-O-Nine as an outlet for songwriting. He plays guitar and tries his best to sing, although his voice is kind of flat and sometimes he just burps. Rob from San Diego bands Crown Down and the Soultans plays Bass. Eric serves up a mean beat on his drumkit.
In the spring of 2000, Jonas & 3 other fellas from Buck-O-Nine started a band called the Winos. Several future Destrung songs were originally played in the Winos set. The Winos disbanded after about a year.
At this point, Jonas decided to start recording a batch of songs at Earthling Studios. This project would come to be known as Destrung. After a few solo acoustic shows, Jonas decided that Destrung should be a band instead of another one of those "lead guitarist goes solo" cliches.
In November 2003, Destrung played its first show at the knitting factory in LA with with Rob on Bass and Jeff (Buck-O-Nine) on drums. Jeff eventually left Destrung and lucky for Jonas and Rob, Eric from the San Diego bands Surf Report and the Secret Samurai, joined in May 2004.
In May 2004, the first Destrung CD, People Watching was released.
Destrung has been playing shows mostly in the San Diego area. Eric recently moved to Colorado, but in a strange twist of fate, we found another drummer named Eric. So the party continues. We will see you at a local bar with a stage sometime soon.
