Leejay Abucayan is not an act you want to follow. Not that he's any good, but he tends to leave a lot of saliva on the microphone, and it becomes an unfortunate inconvenience for the next act. This is because he is what many call a human beatboxer, or vocal percussionist. However, he prefers to be known as just a dude that likes to make noise with his mouth... musically. He's best known for his triumph in conquering Austria ... in the 2003 Austrian Beatbox Championship, that is. Sadly, he hasn't accomplished anything of the same caliber since then. No wait, he actually did get named Sacramento's "Best One Mouth Band" by Sacramento Magazine in 2006. Today, Leejay is a graduate of UC Davis, majoring in Technocultural Studies (no, it's not a techno-music major), but still loves to perform on his spare time. Lately, he has been collaborating with many local music acts, ranging from vocalists, emcees, guitarists, other beatboxers, and once, even a trio of Tuvan throat singers and a didgeridoo player (I know, that's not exactly "local"). If ever you have the opportunity to experience his awesome mediocrity on stage first-hand, let's hope you brought an umbrella... there is going to be a lot of spit coming your way...
Random fact: Leejay has a grandfather named Orlando and a grandmother named Florida. True story.
