Behind the name 20th Finger/ Creative Primates are none other than the acclaimed DJs Khetama and Cutmaster Jay. It was back in 1997 that the pair decided to work together as a DJ team after a triumphant gig in the Dockland (Münster). Both previously enjoyed solo success as DJ and producers (Cutmaster Jay playing places like Ministry of Sound and the legendary Hacienda in Manchester and Khetama playing Tresor or playing as resident DJ at Tribehouse) but found, through their shared love of House music, they could be a strong force as a Duo.
The 20th Finger sound is born from two basic dance elements. Khetama, who has made his name for spinning "funked up" Techno, provides the more progressive components where as Cutmaster Jay blends his skilful Hip Hop roots into the mix. The result is an explosive fusion of mixing and scratching ; layered with accapellas and effects, pinned down to a pumping , hypnotic House beat. Performed live and simultaniously on four turntables and two mixers this makes every set a unique and memorable experience. After encouraging shows in their Homeland Germany (Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne...) and a legendary residency at Germanys hottest club, Dockland, came bookings for major events. Some of these included the Subliminal Sessions (with Erick Morillo, Jose Nunez and Harry ..Choo Choo.. Romero), Nature One, Love Parade, Mysticland, Ruhr in Love...and international Gigs in Great Britain, Belgium, Spain (Ibiza and Mallorca...), Poland (Warsaw etc.), and Sarajevo...
The Duo so far worked together on eight productions already released on various underground labels such as Sureplayer and Dockland Records. The latest offerings can be found on their recently launched record label Creative Primate-Traxxx-. Their latest production March already found its way into Erick Morillos record bag and january charts. The colourful mix of the 20th Finger DJ set is mirrored in their production sound and transformed onto record. The label provides the pair the idel chance of developing their soundscape and expanding the Creative Primates sound to an ever-growing fanbase. We can expect more Creative Primate vocal, progressive, tribal and deep house -Traxxx- in the future. Keep Focused and watch out for 20th Finger/ Creative Primates.
