About Me
My influences in music started at home with my folk’s diverse record collection of Soul, Reggae, Calypso, Jazz, Classical and British Pop. I turned to Hip-Hop growing up in the 80’s and acknowledged it’s main inspiration came from ‘break-beats’/samples of Funk, Rare Groove’s and Jazz music. My music mentor’s of the time Peter B and Simon S (Break Reform) set the play-lists for the source of my musical taste.I started taking photographs at the Jazz Café /Camden in the mid 90’s where the music and atmosphere truly captured my mind and imagination. I got to know the management and gained access to document the venue, many performances and the community of musicians that played there. A degree in Documentary Photography in Newport /South Wales, didn’t stop me driving back to make it to shoot gigs there. During this time I was also commissioned to shoot at Music Festivals where my musical taste broadened further. Camden was the manor of Soul II Soul and I met Jazzie B on the High St there, this lead to working with Wookie and Lain on numerous video shoots. My years at Sony Music UK started assisting the In-house photographer. I also worked with photographer Dennis Morris (Marley/ Sex Pistols/ Island Records) that encouraged me to develop a deeper engagement with artists. With more experience I become a freelancer at Sony covering gigs, meet & greets, Product Promotions, Press shoots and video still for their diverse roster of Artists.Today my musical preference is whatever inspirers or moves me. It’s the soundtrack to my life and is as diverse as the things I witness every day.Check out my website to see more examples of my work: WWW.DAMIANDUNCAN.CO.UKI am available to Artists/Management/Labels for your photographic and design requirements and offer a bespoke service that will represent you and get through to your target audience.
