Cricket (Painty Arthropod)

As long as my head doesn't explode, it'll be FIIIIIIIINE...

About Me

..So I realize I've been really neglectful of this profile, and since I realize that there are still those of you out there interested on what this little Cricket is doing, even though we never manage to talk on the phone and catch up for REAL, I apologize. Things have CONTINUED to be crazy, possibly even crazier than when I first moved, and the various jobs at the moment are stressing me out like WOAH right now, but I am still, on the whole, DELIRIOUSLY. Happy. I still consider myself ridiculously fortunate in the amazing people I've met and I'm often seized by bouts of delirious happiness at where and with whom I find myself, experiencing new stuff all the time. As for that great love, well I miss him very much right now. But if the Universe is, in fact, on our side like we suspect, he will be back in my arms again very soon. In the meantime, I've had some great walks around the city with awesome people. I've had a new and AWESOME addition to the house, Mike, KICK ASS ROOMMATE, and some nice quality time with my beautiful, supportive, and just positively luminous roommate Katie. I've started running again, that is when the two simultaneous painting gigs at OPPOSITE ends of the Bay Area aren't kicking my ass beyond recognition. I've gone to an event called Alchemy, which was a complete embodiment and realization of every artist's dream, complete with local fashionsmiths and just about every square foot of the place being paintable, drawable, photographable, or mouldable into something more artistic than when you first found it. Art parties at friends' houses to give support to our talented friends. I've had a visit from Laura :-), I've got awesome friends who hook me up with jobs and make me sexy-arm-warmers and salves and invite me to awesome events and teach me how to tie bondage knots, a show at ACT for free thanks to Lisa's generosity over at Berkeley Rep.; I got to see the VIOLENT FEMMES for free, opened with True West, Russ Tolman's band! Thanks again, Kim, my Guardian Angel! I've had a VISIT FROM KATHLEEN, who suprised me with tickets to EDWARD fuckin SCISSORHANDS on stage!!! I'm also back to getting PAID to paint scenery (seriously, every artist's wet dream, to be paid to do what you love), as a matter of fact, three different painting jobs at once with the help, once again, of my Guardian Angel, Kim; getting to see the Dia De Los Muertos Procession and cathartic dancing in the streets to live, pounding tribal drumming, WITNESSING Halloween in the Castro (WOW) without having to stay there, Lots of visits to the DNA Lounge, new and wonderful and supportive friends, seeing Seriously Talented Performers and people pursuing their craft and loving life, getting to witness Two Dresden Dolls shows, one night painting a human canvas onstage with the Red Paintings, one night handed a microphone for the encore of "Sing", first taste of Absinthe, rubbing elbows with The Dresden Dolls and about a dozen talented, artistic beauties; stilt-walkers, contact-jugglers, brilliant minds and performers; **A Totally up front spot to see Kinnie Star and Melissa Ferrick, A picnic on a beautiful day at an abandoned Art Park with installations and inspirational company, TWO awesome street fairs, nudity and liberation, two barbeques in the beautiful sunny mission and one naked hottub party, freedom of fantasy and expression... and through it all amazing, supportive and steadfast friends new and old. I also love my sister to death... she rocks so much

My Interests

Well I'm rediscovering more and more lately my love for dancing and singing, I like getting full of paint and making stains on my clothes that let me remember what I created later on. I like being able to climb a scaffold when I used to look up at it and think I could never climb up or back down it. I like singing, all the time, anywhere, with anyone but I've grown used to being told to be quiet. I like all the stuff I can do in theater that makes me feel versatile and challenging even though I can barely hold my own in the literal, common sensical, daily life world. I like playing my violin, though at this point I'd have to dust it off. I like walking barefoot in grass, jumping in the ocean when everyone else thinks it's gotten too cold, riding in the backs of trucks, exchanging ideas... yadda yadda yadda.

I'd like to meet:

My Photobucket

Photobucket Album PEOPLE IN THE BAY AREA BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE I'VE JUST MOVED TO! ALSO PEOPLE FROM NEW YORK WHO I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A CHANCE TO SAY GOODBYE TO YET. I'LL MISS YOU!!!"Love is what I live for, it's a place where I can let down the barriers I've built to protect myself from all the harm that's been done to me, and all the harm I've done. It's where I can climb out of the shell I live in to protect myself from all the pain I've felt, and all the pain I've inflicted. It's that space where my heart and spirit and body all come together with someone else. It's the only place I know where I can be the most of me that I am, and allow my loved one to be the most that she or he can be. Sex is a doorway to love. Desire lets me know I'm knocking on the right door for me. Those connections, that freedom of expression, that all adds up to joy, and it makes the rest of life bearable. ---Kate Bornstein"I don't think I'm going to say who I'd like to meet or not meet anymore, since every single one of my preconceptions has been either shattered or sumerily surpassed beyond my wildest dreams since I've moved here. So I think I'm just gonna say "Keep it coming!" :-)

Music:

EE Gawds, almost anything, anything that has strong musicianship behind it or significant lyrics, or strong emotion, not just noise. Showtunes, of course, and then there's stuff like... well everything else, except for too much country, rap, metal, or opera.

Movies:

Serenity, Art School Confidential, CAMP!!!, Lucia y el Sexo, KINSEY, Chasing Amy, But I'm a Cheerleader, Y Tu Mama Tambien, **Shawshank Redemption**, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Labyrinth, Ladyhawke (if you've seen it and can sit through it give me a buzz :-D it's a wonderfully awful movie), Waiting for Guffman, Waking Life, Liberty Heights, Garden State (I know, me and every other person in my generation), Sideways (though I can't quite figure out why) While You Were Sleeping, Powder, What Dreams May Come, American History X, BENNY AND JOON!!!, In Search of Debra Winger

Television:

when it's possible for me to have time to WATCH TV, it's only ever movies or Queer as Folk, Sex and the City, or the L Word.

Books:

Gold By the Ince, Valencia, My Gender Workbook and Gender Outlaw, Stone Butch Blues, The Hite Report (AWESOME FUCKING BOOK FOR ANYONE, specially for males who have a thing or two to learn about women and *ahem* don't know it yet), Can't Buy My Love (read it EVERYONE) Bridge to Terabithia, Sherwood, Once and Future King, Brave New World, Les Miserables, A Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing, Song of Solomon, Book of Merlyn, anything by T.S. Eliot (poetry mostly, though)

Heroes:

My two bestest friends Kathleen and Ashley, for more reasons than I could ever ever list here, newer and astoundingly wonderful friends like Calli, Zak, Olivia, Whitney, oh the list of those heroes goes on and on and on and on... Kate Bornstein (she friggin' rocks) Mmm... My mother, people who never give up, people who don't apologize for themselves, or let what people say about them affect them, assorted carpenters, painters, theatre technicians and aspiring actors I've met at BTF, ECU, and Gateway. My closest and most wonderful friends who stick by me and somehow find the patience to deal with me at my worst AND at my best, I don't know. everyday people really are my heroes, people who have a fire in their belly and don't let it go out no matter what happens to them, and care about making even one person's life better.
