Entering the universe as Melanie Hope, Canari has been vocal from the moment she entered this world. "Singing is like breathing for mi. Without it, I'm not too sure why I am here." Born to a Puerto Rican King and a Guyanese Empress, she was raised in Brooklyn, NY, where music was in her blood even before food could nourish her physical form. She began reading and playing instruments at the age of 5, and by the time she was 7 years young, she joined a fife and drum corp for young women. She was the youngest to ever join the group. It was here that Melo's passion for music grew and took on a life on it's own. In school, her obsession with words also grew with fire, where she took home honors in English academics. It would be a short time later that she would combine the two loves, and create special gifts for the world.
MeloCanari has traveled to sing and complete music works all over the world. At 15, Canari went to Europe and traveled 7 countries as a Student Ambassador for peace. It was in this time, she learned how similar all yutes are, no matter the language spoken. She also learned to communicate quickly through music. "When we were in Germany, I remember singing a song called Bright Star of Home, and a young girl started to cry in the audience...it touched mi so much, i started to cry with her. I almost couldn't finish the tune! Later, she came to say thank you for teaching her english and she hopes I could get home soon because she could hear how much I missed being home...she only spoke german. I was floored!!"
Canari soon realized that the way to the peoples' hearts is through sound...music. "We all speak so fast. We all av a lot to say...I-self included, believe it...but if we just listen to the sound, hear the beat, feel the beat, then hear the lyrics...not words, but lyrics over the beat...we'll get the message...bet ya!" This is Canari's power.
MC has sang background and worked with some of the hottest artists in the reggae world. Artist from Caplton, Mavado, Wayne Marshall, Turbulence and more. The list continues to grow. Melo is also completing her very first LP with head producer of Trackhouse Entertainment, King Salim. "I am just enjoyin the struggle...without it, I would neva know mi real potential. Besides, I can't really remember ever feelin this much freedom and happiness doin anything else otha than chanting...EVER!!"
