The Superkings

About Me

The Superkings The Superkings: a four piece Indie/Rock band from Burnley, Lancashire, formed in December 2005. Leni [Sean] Benet: lead guitar, lyricist, composer, vocals Mark Benet: bass guitar, vocals Wesley Benet: vocals, rhythm guitar Chris Taylor-Hilton: drums The Superkings have an original sound (a composite of Indie and Rock) made unique by Leni's amazing lead guitar solo breaks. Their influences are a mixture of contemporary artists such as Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Manics etc as well as long-established rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Bonjovi, Aerosmith & Pink Floyd. In addition, the band is such that as well as producing belting Indie/Rock tunes, they can also turn their musical talents to creating Indie ballads, with haunting undertones. Bandography Despite being minus a drummer, eighteen months ago, (in December 2005) the then three-piece band, The Superkings performed their first live gig at the Cross Keys in Burnley. Before leaving the venue, they had 3 offers of a drummer. A month later they performed their second gig to a packed student venue, The Adelphi in Preston, with Chris Taylor-Hilton on drums. The band together with Chris on drums - now regularly play to packed venues in Burnley. Last summer they performed at Queens Park for Bands in the Park. Since then they have played Olivers Bar for the nationwide Oxjam event and also in The Mechanics main concert hall. Since launching their music on the internet The Superkings have enjoyed considerable success. They have recently been voted number one on Popworld with their song All My Dreams and consequently can be seen performing on the Popworld television show, aired on Channel 4 on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July. But more importantly to the boys is the promotional video of their performance that they will receive once it has been aired. Shane Milburn who interviewed the boys for Unsigned Bands Web describes their tunes as a conflicted array of tunes - often singing of a life out of control or asking for redemption. He goes on to observe that many feature a big rock sound with well-performed vocals with guitars and guitar solos front and fore.Lenni's passion is playing guitar and this passion is manifest The Superkings sound, with almost every track featuring a lead guitar solo of impressive talent. “We enjoy our music, say the boys, and we enjoy playing live. Its what real music is all about enjoying the buzz. The Superkings have attracted interest from the music industry in Japan and America. Billboard Radio is running a special featuring The Superkings in Japan, and the band have given an interview for this. The band is a favourite on Campus radio in Ohio, where the students rave about Fire Tears. Fire Tears has a big thick sound with a technically excellent guitar solo; it features profound lyrics about redemption with a powerful well done vocal performance. The band has also been featured on the Unsigned Bands Web home page when they were chosen as Pick for the Month in March 2006, again for the tune All My Dreams. Consequently they agreed to an interview for the website and this can be accessed at: http://www.unsignedbandweb.com/interviews.html). They have also featured, and been interviewed on Radio Lancashire. The band consistently reach the top five in the Overplay charts; and, after having their music on the Internet for only two weeks, the Irish film company i-wire films contacted The Superkings asking if they could use their song Come What May as a backing track for a scene of their film Triple Bill the band have agreed to this. The band has also agreed to a further request from Monique Teri to also use 'Come What May' for her up and coming film 'Oidar', and will result in the band playing live at the prestigious premiere of the film at a top venue in London for The Prince's Trust.
