Imagine one Monday morning, tuning your FM dial as you head towards the office. A track from the Beach Boys' "I Love You" leads you onto the highway, followed by a shimmering Steely Dan workout. Then you hit a pothole; the dial skips and sticks between two stations. Between the static and a Badfinger romp, you can make up the distinct sounds of the college station playing its SST hour. The mash-up revels and delights you; it's an inspiration that carries you into your boss office, self-satisfied and confident, where you promptly quit and head for the beach. Your radio isn't broken at all; the band you've fallen upon is Suburban Detroit's TEN WORDS FOR SNOW
Formed in 2000 after honing chops in divergent outfits such as the infamous comedic-grindcore of 7000 Dying Rats, TWFS came together to engage in their delights of dynamics, energy and melody - a bass player with Rat and Mooger-Fooger pedals, a guitarist who alternates tunings as eyes blink, a keyboardist who plinks and arpeggiates like spaceships soaring, a drummer who vigorously drums and painfully restrains. TEN WORDS FOR SNOW might be the catchiest and smoothest act to come out of Detroit since R.Kelly ruined Motown.
TEN WORDS FOR SNOW released their first EP, as well as a split 7-inch with Sybris and Hairshirt, on Detroit's Boyarm Records. They've been playing Michigan and nearby states for years, having shared the stage with the likes of The High Dials, The Kingsbury Manx, The Standard, The Plus Ones, Sybris, Manishevitz, and Outrageous Cherry. With hooks that drip melody and riffs that melt faces into warm smiling puddles of glee, D-Na is sure to be the reason for the season.
