Courtneys at Pop Mayhem. 5/10/08.
Hiya. We're Courtneys and we're putting the "FU" back in fun. We're from Orlando and we're awesome! We run on Monster Energy drinks, Tijuana Flats and Pita Pit exclusively.
What else is to know? Dorothy screams and shrieks so loud you're going to need earplugs at shows. Not joking. Jeffrey thinks playing bass behind his head is cool. Whateva! Kristin pretty much drums so hard she breaks SOMETHING at EVERY show. What a tuff gal! Oh, Jeffrey and Kristin are getting married. Isn't that just disgusting? Insert puking sounds here.
We have one cd called 'Shake It If You Got It'. It's awesome if you haven't read the reviews so far because EVERYONE knows how reviews are SO important. We're planning on having another CD/7" by the end of the year of all the cool new songs like "Fake Tattoos" and "Dirty". Man, they are some crazy songs. We play shows a lot. We've played with bands like Mates of State, Shiny Toy Guns, Jucifer, The Cannanes, Baby Calendar, Tiger! Tiger!, Maria Taylor, Tres Bien, Holopaw, The Honest A's, Scout Niblett, Mumpsy, Nicky Click, Oh Sanders!, Afirjuwell, Back To Blonde, Derek Lyn Plastic, The Finals, Doris Delay and the Killer Robots. Tons more.
You can get our first CD 'Shake It If You Got It' directly through us. Locally it is available at Park Ave CDs. We also have shirts, buttons, tote bags, purses, magnets and lots more stuff. We have PAYPAL so message us.
Some reviews:
"Florida's Courtneys deliver girly dance-pop with a lo-fi edge. The four-piece's new EP Shake It If You Got It insinuates itself into your heart and hips, and should please fans of Le Tigre, The B-52s, The Capricorns and Trapper Keepers decorated with unicorns." -- Flagpole Magazine.
"Take girl-pop, art-punk, surf, garage and '70s rock, roll it into one bouncy ball and you've got The Courtneys. Their genuine spark and spot-on melodies made it all work in a remarkably cogent set." -- Orlando City Beat.
"The Courtneys are so freaking cute that if it weren't retarded to show excitement in alternating caps and lowercase letters like cyberdorks, we'd totally do it ... in abundance. They love their Sonic Youth, Le Tigre and Rogers Sisters records, all of which becomes apparent as each song drifts from complete dance party to riot-grrl bitchfest. Think of it this way: If the Unicorns and Sleater-Kinney were to take turns pushing each other on the swing set, you'd get the Courtneys. Add The Faint-esque synth lines and lyrics ripped straight from an angsty teenage girl who very well may draw rainbows on her science notebook, and the result is unbearably adorable." -- The Orlando Weekly.
"They themselves are young they are well seasoned musicians who don't follow a set form or style in their music. Courtneys define themselves when others their age still don't have a clue what they want to do with themselves which I find very admirable and hope they stay that way." -- The Yellow Bumper.
