The story of Cap Pas Cap

A history
1978-2004: Inspired by late seventies/early eighties no-wave punk sounds and with a fascination with all things psychedelic and krautrock their early attempts at creating the ‘song' proved difficult. With a new definition of the ‘song', the ‘band' was happening. All of the group had aspirations to break out a new modern sound and taking the sheer raw energy of their influences, matching it with their noisedamaged shifting guitars, dynamic multi-percussion and accidental vocal bursts, Cap Pas Cap was an infant.

Then it was 2005.
Cap Pas Cap began playing live with a truly catastrophic show in March. This was their first show which featured a lot of whiskey. From this point onward they embraced their unorthodox efforts at making pop music and decided to carry on as they had originally started - with a complete disregard for any conventional standards. That June they played a show with new friends Les Georges Leningrad who reinforced to them that the disorder was okay, once you add keyboard. They were okay now and anxiously went forward with a new motto ‘the opposite is operative'.

Hello 20,006:
Cap Pas Cap have played numerous critically acclaimed shows in Ireland and the UK with Numbers, Erase Errata, The Presets, The Go! Team, GOSSIP, Crystal Castles, Teenagers, Au Revoir Simone, Mika Miko, No Age and an appearance at the legendary Reading Festival. Winter arts and crafts for new record sleeves means cut, fold, stick multiply by two hundred fifty.

Their future : 2007:
Japanese 'Not Not Is Fine' CD release through the Rallye/Klee label, August 2007.

Further new releases and album to follow later in the year.

Sounds Like:

DAZED & CONFUSED
- Jonny-Krishna Rothwell
"Cap Pas Cap occupy that awkward no-man's-land where Sonic Youth, Talking Heads and !!! might get it on at Frank Zappa's slumber party"

X MIST - GERMANY
"This band reminds me of anything that was ever fascinating about Post-Punk, No Wave, etc... hints of bands like BUSH TETRAS, PYLON, early SONIC YOUTH and many more come to mind - but the best thing is that CAP PAS CAP turn all this into a sound of their own! Not only the best thing out of Ireland since many many years, but maybe as well one of the best records of this and last year!"

PICADILLY RECORDS, MANCHESTER
Fantastic debut EP from Dublin's Cap Pas Cap who skillfully combine elements of Sonic Youth, LCD Soundsystem, the Rapture and the Cure to create a wonderful indie-post-punk meltdown.

MONGREL MAGAZINE (79%)
"Cap Pas Cap are way better than we have any right to expect an Irish band to be."

NORMAN RECORDS
"This is most definetly something the late, great John Peel would surely have championed."

HOT PRESS MAGAZINE REVIEW (9/10)
"Out of step at home it may be, but their sparky, percussive post-punk ramblings are more than in tune with what's going on elsewhere and in the age when a song can go round the world in a matter of hours, Cap Pas Cap could be set to fly."

IRISH TIMES (4/5 stars)
'they make skewed electro-rock you can dance to'
'the most inventive band to come out of Ireland in ages.'

TOTALLY DUBLIN
‘Their love of krautrock is conspicuous; jagged riffs with clean edges, and clever, repetitive melodies abound'
‘A breathtaking debut release; Cap Pas Cap could yet prove to be a vital component in the evolution of Irish music.'

ROAD RECORDS
‘the perfect middle ground between the no wave sounds of early sonic youth, talking heads funky basslines and the sounds of modern bands like the rapture and lcd soundsystem',

METRO DUBLIN
‘Art rock and bubblegum pop collide to thrilling effect on the first single from Dublin new-wave crew Cap Pas Cap.'

IN DUBLIN MAGAZINE
‘Looking and sounding like the band you always wanted to be in, Cap Pas Cap have the potential to be massive. Just don't tell anybody yet...'
‘simple but madly effective basslines, snatched guitar riffs, minimal keyboard melodies, taut, solid drumming, esoteric lyricism and ululating vocals.'

CAPITAL MAGAZINE
‘Irish post-punk four-piece Cap Pas Cap; a little over a year old and doing a fine line in Rapture-espue vocal wailings atop sincere, edgy guitar riffs'

SMALL BROWN BEAR
‘This is not the raw sound of punk, it's more dispassionate.'
‘The spark of something more literate and experimental.'
