About Me

About "Sacred"
Halloween Music for the Maladjusted
Imagine equal measures of plaintive melancholy and searing melodies set against a creepy, sexy and loud soundscape. It’s difficult isn’t it? That’s why it had to be created...
With the voices of sinner and saint "Sacred" is fronted by two devilishly beautiful young sirens, Jemima Price and Virginia van Kan. Both hail from Brighton on the south coast of England. Virginia spent three years at Paul Mccartney's Academy of Music in Liverpool while Jemima is a self-taught pianist and poet. Both are single-minded, resolute and driven with a common focus on their conviction.
Their paths crossed in 2004 when co-writing a project for a major publisher which evolved into Sacred. As experienced songwriters with extensive live experience in the U.K and U.S, they have created music that is dramatic, moody and powerful. Anthemic choruses and soaring twin harmonies cite influences from Evanescence, Skunk Anansie, Marylin Manson and Shakespeares’ Sister.
Once the course was set, the controls were opened full throttle to deliver an album of dark-side music for the maladjusted, music that captures beauty in darkness.
The album has been independently released on their own "Phobia" label. The band is looking for a major label deal to take it to the next level.
Jemima Price: “We wanted to create music that was shadowy and haunting yet beautiful and dramatic, that would give you goose bumps for both reasons. People have described it as very filmic with which I’d agree. Maybe that is why there has been so much movie-industry interest in the songs. The word is spreading fast, especially in the States. We are contacted by about five new radio stations every day, requesting the press pack and more info."
Virginia van Kan: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve received, both to the album, and the shows. There’s been a massive reaction on the net. It’s encouraging to know that there are people out there that share the same, slightly twisted, outlook and although we already had total faith in the music, it’s always reassuring to have it validated by others."
Jemima Price: "We recorded the album at The Dungeon Studios in London's East End; It was in the basement of a two hundred year old house in Jack The Ripper country and was haunted by a ghost we came to know and refer to as "Simon”
Virginia van Kan: "Fortunately for us, Simon was a benign spirit and we feel the album had his blessing. That's why we sometimes say "Itis the kind of music ghosts like to listen to" Listen to the song "Possessed" and you'll know what we mean"
The inspiration for the album title: "The Beautiful Horror" came from the monologue of the character Colonel Kurtz, played by Marlon Brando in "Apocalypse Now" in which he exults "Horror and mortal terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies." We couldn't agree more. There is so much more sublime beauty in the dark-side.
They have recently recorded a cover of Skunk Anansie's "Hedonism" and are putting the final touches to remixes of "Toys in the Attic" that feature additional material from dark-side rapper "Chill".
Recent London showcases of the album, "The Beautiful Horror", have not only captured new fans but attracted significant interest from Hollywood with two songs from the album; “Toys in the Attic” and “Thirteen” set to feature in a movie to be released next year along with numerous upcoming U.S. television synchs - stay tuned!
Imagine you'd dreamt of the most beautiful music in the world but when you woke up you'd forgotten it - This is that sound
It's creepy, sexy and loud.
It’s a blinding ray of black light……
It's Sacred.
