About Me

I get very emotional when I hear bagpipes. And I can take a punch. That's probably all you need to know. Oh yeah, and what's up with this shit about having to rate your 'friends' as 'top' or not? Fuck that. Also, I sometimes think people take 'myspace' too seriously. Like walking into a bar with your resume out and ready. I'd rather have a monkey out and ready any day.

My Interests

umbrellas, chuan fa, strange rabbits, the totemic power of objects, red socks, muay thai, bad monkeys, tequila, artifacts, fire, filipino stick fighting, sharp objects, disturbances, compassion, dim light, old medical equipment, bones, cars that remind me of the millenium falcon, chin na, traditions, incongruously complex mechanical devices of some antiquity, provocations, grace, empathy, poetry, sake, dead tech, strong coffee, going fast, respect, rodeos, climbing, dancing, oddities, cooking, watching things grow, gun street girls, grey areas, circuses, rythms, things that fit in pockets, languages, wild things, et al.

I'd like to meet:

my fate with a decent degree of wit.

Music:

Mostly bad soundtracks. And some other stuff. And bagpipes.

Movies:

I think Kung Fu Hustle may be the greatest movie of all time. Also, if they made a 'You Got Served' 2, 3, 4, and 5, I would be right there for every one.

Television:

Okay. Yes. I admit it. I sometimes watch television. I even own one now (someone gave it to me), although I have yet to plug it in.

Books:

I like the way they smell. I haven't tasted one since I was pretty small, though.

Heroes:

Sun Wu-Kung. Molly Millions. Tank Girl. Zatoichi. There are a quite a few others I'd buy a beer for, too.

All Doors Lead to the Doorman: Do I Know You?

A few nights ago I was stopped on the stairs in Six Lounge by a man I'd never seen before.  "Hey, man!", he said, clapping me on the shoulder. "Been a long time! Good to see you!" I hurriedly ra...

All Doors lead to the... um, Bartender?

Recently the managers at Six, in a somewhat foolhardy display of faith, decided the time had come to move me from behind the velvet rope to behind the concrete counter. Although I've tended bar before...

All Doors lead to the Doorman: Halloweenie Roast

I learned some valuable lessons this Halloween. I've decided to write them down, so that, on future Halloweens to come, I might be able to refer to them, and thus grow from the mistakes of both myself...

All Doors lead to the Doorman: Huggable Ninjas

The other night a guy I didn't know hugged me three times. Not three times in succession: he hugged me once on the rooftop, when I told him it was time to leave; again downstairs, when I pointed out t...

All Doors lead to the Doorman: One and Zeroes

I got to work early tonight, as I was to be minding the front door for a private party. John and Kameron were lounging in the Tap Room when I arrived, and we had a conversation about the stupid things...

All doors lead to the Doorman: The Chorus Line

All doors lead to the Doorman: Sticks and Stones

A lot of people in Austin got really drunk yesterday. It seemed like half of Ohio traveled here for the UT-OU game, and all of them started drinking as soon as they arrived, which I think was on ...

All doors lead to the Doorman: Sensitivity Training

The other day one of my coworkers told me how intimidating I look.  It wasn't the first time.  In fact, many people have told me this over the course of the last several years, a phenomenon ...
