Movies:
I guess I watch more movies than television programs. I like motion picto-history and sappy classics but I don't have a sweet tooth for contemporary romantic comedies. Because I have to watch horror films through the holes in the Afgan on my couch, I prefer thrillers that spur my imagination over the blood and guts of gore.
Television:
Too much of it going around already and it appears to be spreading. I wish there was a viable, long-term inoculation for tube-ulosis!
Books:
Books!!! Love to read em, need to read em. Books are an essential aspect of my existence. This said, I have been influenced both intellectually and emotionally by far too many books to list here and I could fill a room with the literature I have left to read.
Heroes:
Who are my heroes? More like, who are my heroines? I am surrounded by beautiful, strong, brilliant women who encourage and inspire me on a daily basis! A sister who is not afraid to live as we all should: passionately, feeling every moment, reacting to every emotion as she lives it. In a thick, rich voice, she lyricizes an existence we all share. Entirely unpretentious, almost to her own detriment, she is one of the deepest thinkers I have ever known. An aunt who wears her heart on her sleeve, gladly giving the shirt she has on. She is bold, vivacious, capable of treading all the bricks she lays before her fearlessly. A nana who has lived for others without loosing herself and a grandmother who endured privations I will never fully understand and walked away still happy to give. However deserving these incredible women might be, there is a woman I admire and respect above all others. She is a fiercely intelligent, highly educated woman – an artist, a midwife, a biologist, a record label executive, a bird-watching, cross-country skiing, defender of ecological landscapes, a sage of the garden and a trainer of well-behaved puppies, an avid consumer of literature, a hiker, a wearer of Birkenstocks in the wintertime, a daytime livingroom dancer, an educator and nurturer of children young and not so young any longer, a truly kind and generous woman who loves and is loved intensely – I could continue with her innumerable accolades ad infinitum…Who is my heroine? My heroine is and always will be my mother!
