Joy On Drums

Joy started playing music when she was 4. Her parents were musicians and she was often invited to play along on their performances. She studied dance at the Canadian Ballet Conservatory and was awarded honours and studied under scholarships. Throughout her school years, she studied piano and participated in theatre, choir and played flute in band. Her band teacher noticed her ability with rhythm, and asked her to play drums the following year in band. That christmas, Joy recieved her first drum kit and at age 11 began to take drum lessons. Her drum teacher asked her to play drums in his alt country band, and she began performing live with them. Soon after, she started playing the local all ages music scene in punk and indie bands. After a few year hiatus from playing, she met and started dating fellow musican Jacob Mullen. Soon after getting married they decided to pursue music further and both enrolled in the Selkirk Contemporary Music and Technology program. Joy was the first female drum student to graduate there. After graduating school, the couple moved to Vancouver, where they are both involved in music. Joy continues to freelance and had toured Canada and the States and has been involved in many recording projects.
