The Rockford IceHogs, proud members of the United Hockey League, began play in October of 1999. The team name, IceHogs, was selected during a "name the team" contest. Since then the Hogs have enjoyed seven successful seasons in Rockford. The IceHogs are currently owned locally by Dr. Kris Tumilowicz and Craig Drektrah of Tri Vision Sports, LLC.In seven seasons, the Hogs have entertained over 900,000 fans. The IceHogs are affiliated with the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals and National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators. The affiliation was established during the 2005-06 campaign.The IceHogs play their home games at the Rockford MetroCentre, located in downtown Rockford. The arena is approximately 15 minutes from Interstate 90.As members of the UHL, the Hogs play a 76 game regular season schedule. This year the UHL boasts 12 member clubs in the Quad Cities (Ill.), Bloomington (Ill.), Hoffman Estates (Ill.), Flint (Mich.), Port Huron (Mich.), Fort Wayne (Ind.), Muskegon (Mich.), Kalamazoo (Mich.), Elmira (NY), Glen Falls (NY), Danbury (Con.) and Rockford (IL).The IceHogs will play in the UHL's Western Division with the rival Quad City Mallards, and Fort Wayne Komets and the expansion Chicago Hounds and Bloomington Prairie Thunder. The IceHogs are coached by one of the winningest coaches in professional hockey, Steve Martinson. Martinson helped lead the IceHogs to its two best seasons in club history in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
