Founded in 2005, out of exile films aims to expose powerful ideas and exceptional individuals and bring their stories “out of exileâ€. The company strives to shed light on matters that most of us have the luxury to ignore and to promote empathy for people with plights that don’t seep into our day-to-day lives.
out of exile films is comprised of Chris Bessounian and Tianna Langham; two individuals who have grown up separately but in parallel, living lives that straddle multiple cultures and nations. For ten years, Chris and Tianna have made and worked on short films, feature films and documentaries and have also both acted on stage and in independent film. While working together on a feature film in 2005, their multi-national connection, creative compatibility and desire to tackle similar stories, became quickly apparent.
out of exile film’s first completed project is a short entitled, The Kolaborator, that’s currently screening in film festivals. The Kolaborator is a war crimes drama set in 1992 Bosnia that examines how quickly life can transition from hope to despair and how friends can become enemies, amidst war, extreme patriotism and fear. out of exile films is also in post-production on the feature film, Detached, a psychological thriller set during an L.A. Christmas about an emotionally-vacant mortgage broker whose life and mind become unravelled by a bizarre string of “holiday†harassments that gradually reveal an ill-fated case of racial profiling from his past.
out of exile films is also in development with four other feature film projects: The Resettler, a political thriller that deals with the future of illegal immigration and oil dependency in the U.S.; Guns and Saris, a brutal yet triumphant true story about the (thousands of years old) struggles and self-preservation of “untouchable†women in rural India and Mr Deshee, Against his family's wishes an indian man, obsessed with the U.S. travels to America to make a better life for himself and realizes the "American Dream" is not as wonderful as he had imagined. out of exile .
